Project Presentation on EARTHQUAKE MONIT ORING AND ALERTING SYSTEM Sapthagiri College of Engineering, Bangalore (Affiliated to VTU,Belagavi and Recognized by AICTE,New Delhi)(An ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 certified Institution) Accredited by NBA & NAAC with “A” GRADE Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering Academic Year – 2024-25 Batch No: A13 1 Guided by NAME DESIGNATION DEPARTMENT Presented by, Abhishek V – 1SG21EE001 Bheema Reddy B– 1SG21EE008 Karthik H – 1SG21EE025 Krishna Raj Shekar – 1SG22EE407
Sapthgiri College of Engineering Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering INTRODUCTION: An earthquake monitor and alerting system detects earthquakes and warns people to take precautions before the shaking starts. They detect ground motion as soon as an earthquake begins and quickly send alerts that a tremor is on its way. The system thus allows for early detection of earthquake vibrations and sends alerts to multiple people for instant broadcasting of the earthquake.
Sapthgiri College of Engineering Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering OBJECTIVES: The system is to detect earthquakes and warns people to take precautions before the shaking starts. The system is to warn people of an impending earthquake, giving them time to prepare. The system is to estimate the level of ground shaking that is expected. The system is to store data for professionals to use later.

Sapthgiri College of Engineering Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering METHODOLOGY: Vibration Sensor (SW-420 / Piezoelectric Sensor) Setup: Purpose: Detect ground vibrations typical of an earthquake. Connect the vibration sensor's VCC and GND to the Arduino’s 5V and GND, respectively. The sensor’s analog output pin (A0) is connect ed to one of Arduino’s analog input pins LCD Display (16x2) Setup: Purpose: Display the status of the earthquake detection system. Connect the LCD's to Arduino's digital pins by use of 16x2 LCD library to control it.The VCC and GND of the LCD are connected to Arduino’s 5V and GND, respectively.
Sapthgiri College of Engineering Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering LED Light Setup: Purpose: Provide visual indication when an earthquake is detected. Connect the anode (positive) pin of the LED to one of the Arduino’s digital output pins (pin 5) and the cathode (negative) pin to GND through a 330Ω resistor. Buzzer Setup: Purpose: Sound an alarm when the earthquake is detected. Connect the positive pin of the buzzer to a digital output pin ( pin 8) of the Arduino, and the negative pin to GND. GSM Module Setup: Purpose: Send an SMS to a specified number when the earthquake is detected.
Sapthgiri College of Engineering Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering RESULT: This device helps provide early warning to people in the affected area, allowing them to take precautionary measures before the full impact of the earthquake occurs.
Sapthgiri College of Engineering Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering CONCLUSION: Earthquake has been a very often occurring disaster which needs proper alarming devices. Since digital devices available in the market are rather expensive, the technology we offer is comparatively very cheap and easily accessible. Since it is a light weight device it can be carried along and can be readily used. The device contains an LED which glows red even when the minor shocks occur and the buzzer can sound and notifies
Sapthgiri College of Engineering Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering FUTURE SCOPE: The possibility of the project being able to detect changes in all possible directions and angles makes the project effective one. The removal of occuring of false warnings can make the project a complete useful in the future. In future the android based earthquake detector using MEMS sensor will be best household safety device by rectifying the above defects.
