Previous Loans Often, students have loans which they accepted for previous educational expenses. In order to qualify for the federal graduate loans, those must be “in good standing”. Your previous loan/s may not be in default. If it is, contact the loan provider and work out a payment plan with them. They will then issue you a letter that indicates you are no longer in default. Forward the letter to the financial aid office so that your loan can be disbursed. There is a lifetime borrowing limit for Federal loans.
