Disclaimer ESL acronym This resource has been made for the purpose of teaching English language learners. We know that students can be learning English in many different places, in many different ways and at age, so we try to keep these resources as general as possible. There are many acronyms associated with English language teaching. These include (but are not limited to) ELT, TEFL, EFL, ELL, EAL and ESOL. While the term ESL may not fully represent the linguistic backgrounds of all students, it is the most widely recognised term for English language teaching globally. Therefore, we use the term ‘ESL’ in the names of our resources to make them easy to find but they are suitable for any student learning to speak English.

Teacher Instructions This lesson is the first in a set of twelve lessons for English language beginners. Your students may not be able to understand the instructions, so use them as a guide to help you explain to your students what they need to do. To help we’ve included visual clues to help them understand how to engage with this lesson. You can repeat this lesson if needed, and we’ve also included links to other resources you may want to use for additional practice. Lesson number six and twelve will also be review lessons that will recap all of the dialogue and vocabulary from this lesson. Each vocabulary word and piece of dialogue has an audio play button to help students with pronunciation.
