Background of Study Background of Study Issue: Difficulties faced by Indonesian EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students in developing their speaking skills. Focus: Investigating speaking challenges of Indonesian EFL university students.

Research Question What are speaking problems faced by Indonesian EFL students in developing English speaking skills?

Literature Review Public Speaking: Public speaking is the art of delivering compelling speeches to connect and influence audiences, crucial in personal, academic, and professional life. This course equips learners with essential skills and strategies for various speech types, enhancing their confidence in public communication. EFL Speaking Problem: Students face challenges in developing English-speaking skills, including vocabulary difficulties, grammar difficulties, pronunciation difficulties, excessive use of filler words, difficulty when speaking in front of a large audience, and difficulty in choosing the appropriate accent. Speaking Overview: Speaking is a fundamental language skill that involves both micro (individual language aspects) and macro (communication aspects). Proficient speaking necessitates vocabulary, grammar, fluency, nonverbal cues, and communication strategies. Effective communication relies on good speaking proficiency, emphasizing clear expression and fluent language use.

Research Procedures METHOD OF THE RESEARCH: Descriptive case study SETTING: Study conducted at a university in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. PARTICIPANTS: Participants: Five students aged 19-20 (one males, 4 females). Participants enrolled in the public speaking course and facing speaking problems. TECHNIQUE OF COLLECTING DATA: Semi-structured interviews as data collection method. TECHNIQUE OF ANALYZING DATA: Data analysis such as data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, as described by Miles et al. (2014)

Research Findings and Discussion There Are Six Themes Regarding The Issue Of Speaking. These Themes Are: 1) Vocabulary Difficulties, The study reveals vocabulary limitations affecting English language proficiency and comprehension, emphasizing the importance of vocabulary acquisition in EFL contexts. 2) Grammar Difficulties, English learners encounter challenges in grammar and sentence construction due to the complexity of English grammar. 3) Pronunciation Difficulties, Participants struggle with English pronunciation, particularly with uncommon or divergent words,

Research Findings and Discussion 4) Excessive Use of Filler Words, Excessive use may distract, and millennials carry these patterns into formal situations, while fillers offer a pause for thought 5) Difficulty when Speaking in Front of a Large Audience, public speaking difficulties, linked to anxiety and low self-confidence, affecting speaking skills. 6) Difficulty in Choosing The Appropriate Accent. In EFL research, the focus has shifted from eliminating accents to promoting effective communication and confidence in English.

Conclusion and Suggestions Conclusion The study concludes that Indonesian EFL university students face six main speaking problems, including vocabulary difficulty component, the grammar difficulty component, the pronunciation difficulty component, the excessive use of filler words component, the difficulty component when speaking in front of many people, and the difficulty component of choosing the appropriate accent. Suggestions Future research should explore diverse strategies and support for language acquisition, including technology integration and cross-cultural communication.
