WHAT IS FUNCTION OF COMMUNICATION? Communication functions refers to how people use language for different purposes also refers to how language is affected by different time, place, and situation used to regulate the nature and amount of activities people engage in

CONTROL OR REGULATION SOCIAL INTERACTION MOTIVATION EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION INFORMATION DISSEMINATION

CONTROL OR REGULATION Communication functions to control behavior. Every organization has its own regulations and these regulation are communicated to all members in various ways.

EXAMPLE: Doctor’s Prescription “Take your medicine 3 times a day.” Parent’s Instruction to their child “Wash the dishes now, or else I won’t allow you to go to the party later.” Friends giving advice on what to do “ Move on. He doesn’t love you anymore”

SOCIAL INTERACTION Communications allows individuals to interact with others. Because of the needs to interact daily, people communicate.

EXAMPLE: MARRIAGE PROPOSAL “Will you marry me?” INVITATION “Would you like some coffee, tea or me?”

MOTIVATION Communication to motivates or encourages people to live better. Motivation is either internal or external INTERNAL MOTIVATION comes from within. It is something personal. EXTERNAL MOTIVATION emanates from the outside or from people surrounding him. Encouraging words serve to stimulate people to do better, that is, to motivate them in positive way.

EXAMPLE: “I need you in my life” “I must trim down my weight for her “We need to be proactive and stop procrastinating.”

EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION Communication facilitates people’s expression of their feelings and emotions EXAMPLE: When one informs another about an impending super typhoon, the informer may express various emotions in different situations.

EXAMPLE: Appreciation “I’m so glad that you came into my life” Expressing one’s ambition “I want to finish up my studies with good grades to be accepted in a good university” Expressing a need “ I need you in my life “ Expressing prayers “We pray for those who suffered a broke heart from their crush”

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION Communication functions to convey information. Many events or incidents happen every day. These occurrences affect people so they have to be informed EXAMPLE: “Did you know that there’s a secret apartment at the top of the Eiffel tower?
