Abstract
This chapter shows a historical view of the Internet and its evolution by study-
ing three aspects: Computation, Information and Media. It also describes
the paradigms on the current Internet within the structure of advanced and
multimedia services. The deficiencies and limitations of the current Internet
are presented, concluding that its limit is near.
Subsequently, two different strategies are proposed. First, an evolving
strategy exists that consists of applying patches when new necessities appear
and a new revolutionary or clean-slate strategy that proposes redesigning the
Internet from the beginning by studying all the emerging requirements.
