GENDER Culturally and socially constructed difference between men and women that varies from place to place and time to time. Equality It refers to the provision of equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities to all as recognized by the Constitution. The pursuit of equality by the Ghana Education Service is to adopt policies and development of inclusive systems, institution and programs that enable disadvantaged populations to exercise their rights, responsibilities and opportunities.
Ghana Policy on GESI The gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) strategy seeks to define an approach which ensures that equal opportunities for women, girls, men and boys, and a 'level playing field for all social groups within and outside the country.
G.E.S Policy On Gender Equality And Social Inclusion The policy is one way to ensure that the excluded groups- because of their location, physical/health status, gender identity, age, stereotypes and the poor or economically excluded- will have equal benefit.
Gender Equality: It is defined as “state of equal ease of access of resources and opportunities regardless of gender including economic participation and decision making;
Why Gender equality is required Equal rights and opportunities for girls and boys help all children fulfil their potential. Ending all discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic human right, it’s crucial for sustainable future; it’s proven that empowering women and girls helps economic growth and development. It is a Goal-5 of SDG.
Gender Equality-why is it important? 1. Women empowerment – decision making power, access to opportunities and resources etc., 2. To achieve gender parity in education. 3. Promote girl’s education. 4. Ensuring women health and safety. 5. To reduce gender based violence.

Promoting gender equality and social inclusion in classroom Avoid separating male and female students. Don’t allow male students to interrupt female students when they are speaking. Promote all genders working together. Avoid stereotypes (including subtle ones). include literature that is inclusive and free of gender stereotypes. Avoid assigning gender to toys and games in early years. Swap out gendered words.
SOCIAL INCLUSION “It is the process of improving the terms on which individuals and groups take part in society- improving the ability, opportunity, and dignity of those disadvantaged on the basis of their identity.” Social exclusion: “It describes the phenomenon where particular people have no recognition by, or voice or stake in, the society in which they live.”
Contd., The World Bank Group defines social inclusion as: The process of improving the terms for individuals(socially backward) and groups(high risk) to take part in society, and The process of improving the ability, opportunity, and dignity of those disadvantaged on the basis of their identity to take part in society.

Ways Teachers Can Make the Classroom More Equitable and Inclusive Start With Yourself : Start by examining your own beliefs and biases. Set Clear Rules : Make sure every student understands the classroom rules, which should focus on respect and openness to differences. Use Diverse Materials and Teaching Styles : mix up your teaching methods and present various viewpoints. Let Students Choose : Involve students in choosing topics and learning strategies.
Contd., Make Room for Learning Styles and Disabilities Ensure your classroom supports various learning styles and disabilities by: Presenting information in multiple formats (e.g., verbal, aural, and visual) Reading test instructions aloud Providing transcripts for multimedia content Using a range of media, like movies and audiobooks Offering supplementary materials, such as illustrations and glossaries Ensuring technology is accessible (e.g., adjustable screen brightness, and enlarged text)
