Cell structure and functions PRESENTED BY MAM SWETHANE This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA-NC

Objectives Identify and name the main organelles found in a plant cell Describe the function of each organelle, including the Cell membrane, cytoplasm, and the nucleus

Cell organelle’s structure and function Cell Membrane Structure: A thin, flexible barrier that surrounds the cell. Function: Controls what enters and leaves the cell (selective permeability).

Cytoplasm Structure: A jelly-like fluid called cytosol that fills the inside of the cell and it contains all the organelles suspended in it Function: Supports and holds organelles in place.

Nucleus Structure: A large, spherical organelle surrounded by a double membrane called the nuclear envelope, which has pores. Contains chromatin (DNA and proteins), which condenses into chromosomes during cell division. Function: The control center of the cell. Stores the cell’s genetic material (DNA).

Homework Part B: Fill in the Blanks 1. The cell membrane is _______ permeable, meaning it controls what enters and exits the cell. 2. The _______ is a jelly-like substance that supports and holds organelles. 3. The _______ acts as the control center of the cell and stores DNA.
