ATTRIBUTES OF SUCCESSFUL FISH RAISERS

1. Robert Patines Was a fish farmer from Cagayan Valley. He was open-minded and could easily adapt to the changes and trends in the fishing industry. He successfully adopted the “sex-reversed tilapia production” with the support of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic resources.

1. Robert Patines His commitment and dedication to his endeavor were recognized and made him a recipient of the National Gawad Saka Award in 1988, and the Fish for Every Filipino Award. With his approach to fish farming management and with his positive attributes, he was considered to be the most successful tilapia raiser in their region.

2. Vicente B. Lugagay His humble beginning as a fish farm worker did not deter him from following his dreams, working for them, and achieving them as an outcome of his strong business sense, innovative ideas, and commitment.

2. Vicente B. Lugagay He used the green water technology during the breeding stage of his tilapia, such that cost feeds is reduced with the use of natural feeds. He cross-bred specific tilapia strains to make the fingerlings more adaptable to climate change. He was recognized in his field and received the Gawad saka Award in 2018.

3. Jean Gonzales Jean Gonzales is a former OFW who tried fish farming as her business venture. She named her fish farm Jam Dynasty Fish Farm and employed competent people to work for their farm.

3. Jean Gonzales She also opened a Resto Bar in Tagaytay which offers a farm to table seafood menu. The harvests are exported to the Asian and Pacific countries through the consignees who pick up the products at farm gates prices.

4. Joel Sims Joel Sims is a fish farm operator who focuses on catfish farming. He advocates the natural food for catfish to reduce pollution. He emphasized the potential of catfish farming quoting the difference in stocking densities which contribute to higher yield.

4. Joel Sims He used green light technology by using green polycarbonate roofing because he believed that the green light relaxes the larva. He used faucet that are constantly open to supply water to the facility, in this way, the water that flows out of a tank is using natural gravity.

5. Audie Lim Audie Lim is a successful fish farmer in Ozamis City. Despite his lack of training in the fishery industry. Audie Lim, or Chun Chay in the Chinese community, entered this business through prawn farming. He pioneered the milkfish farming method and his business venture flourished in this field.
