This time, we explored the complex world of honey bees, guided by Vishnu Sir, an expert beekeeper from Karur. During our exploration, we discovered the critical role these pollinators play in our ecosystem, learned about the intricacies of their social structures, and explored the various products they provide, such as honey and beeswax.

After the informative session, we split into three groups for practical learning. One group explored bee boxes with Vishnu Sir, observing Indian bees, handling honeycombs, and learning about their life cycle. Meanwhile, other groups played chess and truth or dare, fostering bonds while waiting for their turn. WORLD OF HONEY BEES KEY LEARNINGS AND FACTS Bee Varieties: 20,000 species globally; 270 in India; 250 in Tamil Nadu. Families: Queen, male drones, female workers. Life Cycle: Worker bees live ~45 days; queens up to 3 years; males die after mating. Pollination: Crucial for plant reproduction and food production. Defense: Sting and die; attack intruders by generating heat. Products: Honey, venom, royal jelly, propolis.

COMB REMOVAL: COLONY RELOCATES IF COMB IS REMOVED. BEE COMMUNICATION: USE DANCE TO CONVEY NEW HIVE LOCATIONS. HONEY TESTING: COMMON METHODS OFTEN UNRELIABLE; SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES ARE NECESSARY.
SAFETY AND CONSERVATION TIPS Behavior Near Hives: Move slowly and calmly to avoid provoking bees. Escape: Find shelter or jump into water if chased by bees. Honey Bee Safety: Wash hands with running water or apply sand if bees follow you.
