HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN PRE-PREGNANCY

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN PRE-PREGNANCY 1. BLIGHTED OVUM - It happens when the egg is fertilized in the fallopian tube and attaches itself to the uterus, but the embryo fails to develop.

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN PRE-PREGNANCY 2. ECTOPIC PREGNANCY - It occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy most often occurs in a fallopian tube, which carries eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN PRE-PREGNANCY 3. POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME - is a condition where you have few, unusual or very long periods. It often results in having too much of a male hormone called androgen. Many small sacs of fluid develop on the ovaries. They may fail to regularly release eggs.

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN PRE-PREGNANCY 4. MYOMA (FIBROID) - are smooth, non-cancerous tumors that may develop in or around the uterus. Made partly of muscle tissue, myomas seldom develop in the cervix, but when they do, there are usually myomas in the larger, upper part of the uterus as well.

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN during-PREGNANCY

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN DURING PREGNANCY 1. PRE-ECLAMPSIA - is one high blood pressure (hypertension) disorder that can occur during pregnancy. - It is closely monitored because it may lead to eclampsia, the episodes of seizures during pregnancy, which is very dangerous for both the mother and the baby.

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN DURING PREGNANCY 2. PLACENTA PREVIA - is a problem during pregnancy when the placenta completely or partially covers the opening of the uterus (cervix). - The placenta is an organ that develops inside the uterus during pregnancy. - It works to provide oxygen and nutrition to the baby and to remove waste.

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN DURING PREGNANCY 3. GESTATIONAL DIABETES - is a type of diabetes that can develop during pregnancy in women who don't already have diabetes.

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN post-PREGNANCY

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN post-PREGNANCY 1. POSTPARTUM DISORDER - means the time after childbirth. Most women get the “baby blues,” or feel sad or empty, within a few days of giving birth. For many women, the baby blues go away in 3 to 5 days. the mother may have mood swings

HEALTH CONDITIONS THAT MAY OCCUR IN post-PREGNANCY 2. SEPSIS - is the body's extreme response to an infection. - It is a life-threatening medical emergency. - Sepsis happens when an infection you already have triggers a chain reaction throughout your body. - Infections that lead to sepsis most often start in the lung, urinary tract, skin, or gastrointestinal tract.

Short quiz no. 1 ¼ sheet of pad paper TRUE OR FALSE. Write TRUE if the statement is correct and write FALSE if the statement is wrong.

Lesson 3. Maternal nutrition, pre-natal care and Post-natal care and Unang Yakap , advantages of breastfeeding for both mother and child. Lesson 3 Quarter 2 health

WHY IS MATERNAL NUTRITION IMPORTANT DURING PREGNANCY? - Healthy nutrition is important for pregnant women. Proper nutrition allows the baby to grow and develop normally in the mother’s womb or uterus. It also keeps the mother healthy., - Biologically, the nourishment that the mother gives to her body is the same nourishment acquired by the baby inside her. So, it is basically important that the mother makes it to point that she only eats healthful food.

Food tips for the mother during pregnancy: 1. Eat food from each of the food groups every day (vegetable, fruits, grains/cereals, proteins, milk/dairy products). 2. Drink plenty of water 3. Avoid caffeinated drinks like cola and coffee 4. Eat small amounts of food high in fats, sugar and salt. 5. Eat food that is freshly prepared 6. Eat a balanced diet 7. Take multivitamins.

IMPORTANCE OF PRE-NATAL CARE AND POST-NATAL CARE PRE-NATAL CARE Prenatal care is very important for both mother and the baby. It is a care program that a pregnant woman must undergo. Once the wife knows she is pregnant, a visit to the doctor is a must. Prenatal check-up is very important not only to monitor the mother’s condition but also to watch the health of the fetus.

IMPORTANCE OF PRE-NATAL CARE AND POST-NATAL CARE POST-NATAL CARE - It is also important the health of the mother and the baby should be monitored after birth. It is the postnatal period. The first six weeks after the birth. It is the post-natal period.

Gestational cravings or paglilihi can affect the traits of developing the fetus REACT ON THIS:

Here is the danger sign for both the mother and the baby as listed by World Health Organization (WHO) Danger sign for the mother Danger signs for the baby Excessive bleeding Foul smelling vaginal discharge Fever with or without chills Severe abdominal pain Excessive tiredness or breathlessness Swollen hands, face, and legs with severe headaches or blurred vision Painful, engorged breasts or sore, cracked, bleeding nipples Convulsions Movement only when stimulated or movement even when stimulated Not feeling well Fast breathing (more the 60 breaths per minute), grunting or severe chest-in drawing Fever (above 38c) Low body temperature (below 35.c) Very small baby (less than 1500 grams or more than 2 months early) bleeding

NEW BORN SCREENING - This procedure is known as new born screening - It is done by getting a small blood sample from the baby’s heel for testing.

WHY APGAR SCORING SYSTEM IS IMPORTANT -after the baby’s birth, a quick evaluation of the newborn’s physical condition is done - it is the very first test of the newborn known as the APGAR score. - it can tell if the newborn needs extra medical or emergency care. It names came from its developer in 1952, Virginia Apgar, but later became an acronym means APPEARANCE, PULSE, GRIMACE, ACTIVITY, and RESPIRATION.

WHY APGAR SCORING SYSTEM IS IMPORTANT Medical personnel like doctors, midwives, or nurses gives their score by combining all the five factors which may range from 0-10. The score is commonly obtained

WHY APGAR SCORING SYSTEM IS IMPORTANT APGAR Sign 2 1   Appearance (skin Color) Normal color all over (hands and feet are pink) Normal color (but hands and feet are bluish) Bluish-gray or pale all over Pulse (heart rate) Normal (above 100 beats per minute) Below 100 beats per minute Absent (no pulse) Grimace (reflex irritability) Pulls away, sneezes, coughs, or cries with stimulation. Facial movement only (grimace) with stimulation Absent (no response to stimulation) Activity (Muscle tone) Arms and Legs Flexed with little movement Arms and legs flexed with little movement No movement, “floppy” tone Respiration (breathing rate and effort) Normal rate and effort, Good cry Slow or irregular breathing, weak cry Absent (no breathing)

Medical personnel like doctors, midwives, or nurses gives their score by combining all the five factors which may range from 0-10. The score is commonly obtained

ESSENTIAL NEWBORN CARE (ENC) PROTOCOL, OR UNANG YAKAP In the Philippines, the department of Health under Administrative Order 2009-0025 has implemented the ENC Protocol, which is a step-by step guide for health workers and medical practitioners. They should follow this protocol after childbirth

The step-by-step procedure of ENC Protocol or Unang Yakap 1. Immediate drying 2. Proper cord clamping and cutting 3. Uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact 4. non-separation of the newborn

BREASTFEEDING IS IMPORTANT? As part of the ENC protocol, breastfeeding is given the utmost importance. - The World Health Organization highly recommends breastfeeding. It allows the babies to be protected from infections, allergies, and from a number of chronic conditions.

IMPORTANCE OF breastfeeding 1. Breast milk as food 2. Breast milk and protection 3. Practical benefits 4. Psychological and emotional benefits 5. Contraception

Lesson 4. Immunization, Importance of responsible parenthood, effects family size on family health, examines the roles and responsibilities of parents in child rearing and care and Modern family planning. Lesson 4 Quarter 2 health
