Definition of terms Elements of design- are the language of the visual arts.
Radiated lines- to extend in straight lines from or toward a center.
Accessory- a thing which can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile or attractive.
Gradual change- changing slowly over a long period of time
Elements of Design
Color -creates ideas, expresses messages, spark interest and generate certain emotions.
Shape It is created by the cut and construction of the garment. The shape of the garment
Line Can show direction Draw your attention Divide a space Communicate a feeling
Texture The surface quality of an item How it feels when touched or looks like it would feel if touched.
Principles of Design
Principles of design- are the artistic guidelines for using the elements of design.
1. Balance According to this principle, from the center of the dress, design should be identified on both side.
Two ways to achieve balance
a. Formal or Symmetrical Balance can be described as having equal "weight" on equal sides of a centrally placed like a see saw .
b. Asymmetrically or the informal balance When the structure decoration and accessories are different both sides from the center of the design.
2. Proportion Is the pleasing relationship of all parts of the object with one another Button, collar, pockets, etc. should in proportion to the size of the dress.
3. Emphasis every pleasing design has one part that is more interesting than any other.
4. Rhythm these are smooth movement repeated again and again. it is created by repeated use of the design
KINDS OF RHYTHM a. Repetitio n of lines, colors, or accessories.
b. Radiation . Rhythm can also be created by the radiated lines.
c. Gradation . Rhythm can be created by gradual change of lines, shape or shade of the color.
5. Harmony When things look right together Is the union of the elements of design.
