What is an adverb? An  adverb  is a word that modifies a   verb , adjective  or another adverb . It give more meaning and information to a sentence.

Adverb of manner Adverbs of manner  modify or give further information about verbs by indicating  how  or  in what manner  an action is done. They are usually placed after the main verb or after the object. Examples :- She plays the violin terribly .→  after the object He ate the chocolate cake greedily . →  after the object He walked  quickly  across the plaza. →  after the main verb Liam played his guitar  loudly  every evening. →  after the object How?

An  adverb of manner  should not be placed between the verb and the object.  Examples: Kim sings   loudly   the song. →  incorrect: between the verb and the object Kim sings the song  loudly . →  correct: after the object If there is a  preposition before the object, (e.g., towards, to) an adverb can be placed before the preposition or after the object. For Example: Kim sings  loudly  to the crowd. →  before preposition Kim sings to the crowd  loudly . →  after the object

Adverb of place Adverbs of Place  tell us the location where the action of the verb happens or carried out . It is usually placed either after the object or just after the main verb. Examples: He ran there . → after the main verb She took the gift upstairs. →  after the object We play here . → after the main verb Where?

Adverb of time Adverbs of time  tell us when an action happened. It is usually placed at the end of the sentence. Examples: She will visit  tomorrow . He finished his homework today . He completed the project yesterday. When?

Adverb of frequency Adverbs of Frequency  tell us  how often   or how frequently something happens. It is usually placed after the subject in a sentence. Examples: She never drinks milk. I always play cricket. He often goes to the market. How often?

Adverb of degree Adverbs of Degree  shows the intensity of an action or a thing. It answers the question how much, in what degree or to what extent. It is placed before the main verb. Example: We have almost reached. The soup is very hot. It is also placed before the adverb or adjective that it is describing. Ex : I am quite happy. How much?

Exercise Fill in the blanks with an appropriate adverb from the box below. Make sure to choose the correct adverb that best describes how the action is performed in each sentence.
