A PLEA OF DUTY: THE
STUDENT LEADERS IN
LEADING MAPANDAN
NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
On the day of school election, students elect leaders that they
believe will properly lead the school. Students run in the school
election to see changes they want, and for students to voice out their
concerns and formulate the solutions to the said concerns. With that
said, as they have been elected, they are expected to bear the duties
that student leaders should do. According to a study, good student
leaders are expected to set an example for their peers and promote a
positive and inclusive learning environment.
Background of Study
This involves organizing and leading events, participating in
decision-making processes, and advocating for the needs and
interests of other students. This means that they are expected
to perform their duties correctly and be the voice of the
student body.
However, it is not true that all candidates are actually worthy
to lead the school, as not all are mentally prepared for the
challenges a student leader may have. The effectiveness of their
leadership can greatly or poorly impact the school climate,
which also depends on how well they perform their duties.
According to a study, bad leadership can stem from
unreliability, bad relationship with the school body, and lack
of compassion. Proper leadership can set a good example to
the whole student body, as with good leadership, it would
produce a fulfilling impact both to the students and the
leaders themselves.
This study aims to evaluate the capacity of leadership
skills of the school leaders in Mapandan National High School.
The researchers also aim to find out the significance of their
leadership skills to the school climate.
