INTRODUCTION Regulatory agencies are usually a part of the executive branch of the government of they have statutory authority, regulatory authorities are commonly set up to enforce standards and safety.

REGULATORY BODIES A regulatory body is a public organization or government agency that is responsible for legally regulating aspects of human activity. The role of the regulatory body is to establish and strengthen standards and ensure consistent compliance with them.

It is the professional organization for registered nurses in united states to advance and protect the profession of nursing. PURPOSES OF ANA: To work for improvement of health standards and availability of health care services. To foster high standards of nursing. FUNTIONS OF ANA : Accredits institutes education programs. Provide certification for individual registered nurses. Supplies data for research . Responsible for creating code of ethics for nurs es.

CANADIAN NURSES ASSOCIATION :

CNA is a national nursing association of Canada. It has developed national standards and code of ethics and it offers support to all the professional association. FUNCTION OF CNA: Regulating nursing education standards. Setting criteria for admission to the professionals. Setting standards for practices. Acting on complaints from the publics. Disciplining members who fail to meet the necessary standards of life practice.

NATIONAL LEAGUE FOR NURSING(NLN):

NLN is recognized in united states as national accrediting body for all basic education programs as well as for master degree nursing program. NLN advances promotion of health and provision of quality health care with changing environment by promoting and monitoring effective nursing education. FUNCTIONS OF NLN: strengthens nurses role in promotion of quality care which is accessible and affordable. Ensures quality in nursing education. Enhances consumer involvement in attaining goals of organization. Develop , creative and collaborative approaches for resolution of health acre problems.

ACCREDITATION OF NURSING EDUCATIONAL INTITUTES: DEFINITION ACCORDING TO SELDEN, “A ccrediting is the process whereby an organization or agency recognizes a college or university or a program of study as having met certain predetermined qualifications or standards. PURPOSES OF ACCREDITATION: Maintenance of adequate admission requirement. Maintenance of minimum academic standards. Stimulation of institutional self improvement. Protection of institution of higher education against educationally and socially harmful pressure .

IMPORTANCE OF ACCREDITATIONIN EDUCATION: Ensures a quality index for student nurses. Attracts more student nurses.

Technique for accreditation : Keeping in mind philosophy , mission , infrastructure and authority of teaching institute ,accreditation team seeks into necessity and funding for process. Team visits the institution and the parent /affiliated hospitals to observe the standards given by INC .

On basis of findings team analyses whether the teaching institute meets criterion and standards given by concerned regulatory body before awarding the accreditation Enlist strength and limitations of institution by quoting example If institution isn’t up to the mark in compliance with standards , the institution can send written report of deficiencies to director and time limit can be given till next accreditation. If it meets the standards , it can be rewarded accreditation in written form with conditional basis

AFFILIATION OF NURSING EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES Affiliation means attachment with board or university. Affiliation is mandatory for all schools and colleges. After affiliation the colleges have to follow the guidelines of university on the basis of which : Affiliation may be extended by college to university. Affiliation may be renewed. Affiliation may be withdrawn.

For meeting the requirements for affiliation of the institution, certain guidelines are set for each nursing course by the government/university/board and the regulatory bodies are mentioned down :

Guidelines to start A.N.M and G.N.M Cours e The Organizations are eligible to Establish / Open an Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives School of Nursing. a) Central Government/State Government/Local body; b) Registered Private or Public Trust; c) Organisations Registered under Societies Registration Act including Missionary Organisations; 2. The eligible Organizations Establishments should obtain Essentiality Certificate or No objection Certificate from the concerned State Government where the nursing School of Nursing is sought to be establish ed.

3.After receipt of the Essentiality Certificate or No objection Certificate, the eligible institution shall get recognition from the concerned State Nursing Council for the ANM or GNM programme for the particular Academic Year, which is a mandatory requirement. 4. The Indian Nursing Council shall after receipt of the above documents proposal would then conduct Statutory Inspection of the recognized training nursing institution under Section 13 of Indian Nursing Council Act 1947 in order to assess the suitability with regard to availability of Teaching faculty, Clinical and Infrastructural facilities in conformity with Regulations framed under the provisions of Indian Nursing Council. 5. The INC will conduct inspection every year till the first batch completes the prog ram.

Guidelines to Start B.sc Nursing course 1.Any organization under: ( i ) Central Government/State Government/Local body (ii) Registered Private or Public Trust (iii) Missionary or any other organization registered under Society Registration Act are eligible to establish General Nursing and Midwifery School of Nursing. 2. Any organization having 100 bedded Parent (Own) hospital is eligible to establish General Nursing Course. 3. Above organization shall obtain the Essentiality Certificate/No Objection Certificate for the General Nursing and Midwifery programme from the respective State Government.

4 . The Indian Nursing Council on receipt of the proposal from the Institution to start nursing programme, will undertake the first inspection to assess suitability with regard to physical infrastructure, clinical facility and teaching faculty in order to give permission to start the programme. 5. After the receipt of the permission to start the nursing programme from Indian Nursing Council, the institution shall obtain the approval from the State Nursing Council and Examination Board. 6. Institution will admit the students only after taking approval of State Nursing Council and Examination Board.

ETHICAL PRINCIPLES OF NURSING AUTONOMY : addresses the personal freedom and the right to make decisions. Informed consent is one of the example. BENEFICENCE : this principle state the action to promote good. Increase both quantity and quality of life of the patient. NON-MALEFICENCE : the principle state to that one should do no harm. VERACITY : the principle is concerned with telling truth completely. It also help in decision making by the patient. JUSTICE : this principle states to treat all the person equally and fairly. FIDELITY : the principle means to keep one’s promise or commitments.

Philosophy of Nursing Education Philosophy of nursing education is the written statement of believes, values, attitudes and ideas which the faculty as a group agreed upon in relation to the nursing educational program such as health, disease, education. To facilitate all round development and to encourage students (professional, so cial, cultural, and recreational activities).

Minimum Requirements Minimum requirements are the requirements which are much needed to establish a school of nursing or nursing institution.

S TAFF Administrative head of the institute Administrative head should be with necessary professional qualification and experience. She may be designated as principal/director. Teaching staff- A school with 150 students needs 👉 Principal - one Vice principal - one Clinical instructor - fifteen

No school can be started with less than intake of 20 students. Additional staff – Cashier/accountant- one Lower division clerk cum typist- one Librarian – one Driver – one for each vehicle Sweepers – 3 Security guard – 4

Physical facilities Classroom – at least 4 Nursing practice lab – 6 bedded, well equipped with all nursing articles Auditorium – should have accommodation of double the number of strength of students. Library – proper lightening, heating and cooling arrangements . Sufficient books, cupboards, racks for placing books. Offices – one principle office separate office for Admin staff minimum 6 separate desks for teaching staff.

Clinical facilities Field practice area – A well set up field teaching center with accommodation of 10 students at a time. Hospital – hospital should provide all clinical and learning experience required for nursing students. Size – hospital should be minimum 150 bedded .

Hostel facilities Hostel room – It should be ideal for two students. A table, a chair ,a cupboard should be provided. Bathroom should be present at each floor. Recreation – Indoor and outdoor games. Television room . Gymnasium. Visitors room – with comfortable seating , lightening, cooling and heating facility. Pantry – one pantry at each floor with water cooler and heating arrangements.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR STUDENTS

Admission process are based on kind of program being offered by college and the kind of students admitted to college. 1.All colleges under the government are following the same admission policy as per government policies . The students have to pass the pre degree with 50% marks or above. All the students have to pass the entrance exam. 2. The college of nursing has no control over the admission as it the process conducted by the medical college including college of nursing .But , private colleges have different policies. In these colleges admission is given to students with 50% or above marks in pre degree, having science.

eligibility Applicants must be atleast 17 years of age for getting admission.

Guidance And Counselling For Students Nurses GUIDANCE Guidance is a personal assistance. Guidance is a process by which individual solves his problems by his own efforts. PURPOSES 1. To help an individual to solve any complex situation. 2. It is mainly created around educational needs, vocational needs and personal needs. 3. It helps the child to adjust with situations and develop the ability to face problems and resolve them.
