Objectives To support the hunger mitigation initiatives of the government. To encourage both public elementary and secondary schools to establish school gardens to ensure continuous supply of vegetables for the School- Based Feeding Program, and other feeding programs.
When did gulayan sa paaralan sa paaralan start? In 2007, Gulayan sa Paaralan (GPP) was launched by the Department of ducationin partnership with the Department of Agriculture to promote the value of school gardening as contribution to the feeding program and raise awareness to have a locally grown vegetables and crops that will benefit the community.
What is the impact of the GPP to the stakeholders? The production of more good quality vegetables in the GPP can help sustain the feeding program in school. The support of school heads and other stakeholders are integral in the success of the program.
Why is the GPP important? The GPP aims to raise public consciousness on health and nutrition by planting vegetables in available spaces in schools. It also seeks to supplement the food given to students in the school’s supplemental feeding program.
Gpp in the new normal the new normal has brought a lot of changes to us and this includes the gpp as well. in lieu of this, there were certain programs launched by other schools such as the 3p’s (pause, pose, post) and gulayan sa tahanan . As teachers, we should also encourage our learners to plant vegetables in their backyard as this tends to: *lessen the stressful effects of the current situation by providing a diversion through planting and gardening. * help students practice the 5r’s (refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle) * raise awareness of the benefits of having a mini- gulayan in their own backyard through posting on social media platforms. Teachers are also encouraged to participate in improving and maintaining the GPP because it helps not only the school, but it is also aids us in relieving our anxiety.
Gpp in the new normal As teachers and role models, we should be the ones to lead our learners to develop their love and passion for caring for the environment. We can do this by simply promoting cleanliness as well as letting them discern the importance of having a gulayan in their backyard as it can be a source of food for them, especially in this time of pandemic.
