The Department of Education required every school to put up a productive and successful vegetable garden under the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program. GPP is also inline with the DepEd Memorandum No. 223 series of 2016 entitled “Strengthening the implementation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools Nationwide.” This program is a part of the national effort to ensure the development and nutrition among Filipino students by providing the needed vegetables for school feeding program and to ensure the quality of education by surpassing the malnutrition among students .
Ramon District support this program through the leadership of Mr. Joel A. Baybado /District Gulayan sa Paaralan Coordinator , with the guidance, support, and supervision of Mrs. Emily N. Tomas, EdD/Public Schools District Supervisor , teachers and with the enthusiastic learners and supportive parents, the said program was implemented successfully. Most of the seeds and seedlings came from LGU SEF(Special Education Fund) through the leadership and support of Hon. Jesus D. Laddaran , Municipal Mayor.
The learners were trained to grow vegetables using varied types of gardening suited on the land situation of the school, they were also assigned to observe the agronomic analysis of the vegetable plants for proper fertilizer management, water management, weeding management, pest and disease control measures and entrepreneur. Proper land preparation, seed sowing and transplanting were also taught to them. Learners were also encouraged to do their backyard gardening at home and apply the good practices of gardening learned at school, as part of their responsibilities in sharing and implements consumption of vegetables among their community for a better healthy and balance diet.
BEFORE
Our District Supervisor together with the District GPP Coordinator coordinate to our generous Municipal Mayor, Hon. Jesus D. Laddaran for the seeds and seedlings to all schools. School heads coordinated with their School GPP Coordinators to initiate cleaning of the garden area and cultivation of the soil. Select the area or space for planting.
Identify different variety of vegetables, fruit bearing tress and medicinal plants based on considerable and available factors like the soil, weather condition, and area. Encourages learners and parents to participate in planting and maintaining the gardens. Collect animal manure and rice hay ( dayami ) as source of organic fertilizer.
DURING
Making fences and walls around the gardens. Construct garden design with the help of School GPP Coordinators and Teachers. Created compost pit and dump bio-gradable waste, animal manure, and rice hay ( dayami ) in order to have natural fertilizer. Monitoring of schools on the implementation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program.
AFTER
Continue on the gardening and managerial system in maintaining the project based on the conducted monitoring and evaluation. Encourages the learners in caring and maintaining the project. Continuous supply of vegetables for the school feeding program.
