About This Presentation

A hazard description is a detailed account of a potential source of harm or adverse health effect on a person or persons under certain conditions at work or in the environment. Here's an example of a long hazard description:

Overview:
Exposure to hazardous chemicals is a significant concern in ...

1.What do you think happen
in the image?
2.What do you think caused
the event in the image?
3.What will you do if you are
to see the event in real life?

1. Discuss the different geological
hazards.
2. Analyze the causes of geological
hazards.

These are gradual or sudden natural earth
processes which cause injury, loss of life,
property damage, loss of livelihood, social
and economic disruption.
These include earthquakes, landslides,
volcanic eruption and sink holes.

It is a mass-wasting process involving sediments
consisting of rocks, organic and non-organic debris,
and other earth materials moving down a slope.
CAUSES OF LANDSLIDES
1. Geology
Refers to the
material of the soil
or rock in the area
that has weakened
in some part.
2. Morphology
Refers to the structure of
the land. It weakens
through loss of vegetation
and prolonged rainfall.
3. Human Activity
Irrigation, deforestation, and
excavation can weaken the earth
surface to give way for
agriculture and construction.

This occurs due to prolonged or heavy rainfall causing
to increase the weight of the land mass.
Rainfall-induced landslides can form debris flows when
they mix with additional water and sediments from their
path.

Aslope failureis a phenomenon that
aslopecollapses abruptly due to
weakened self-retainability of the earth
under the influence of a rainfall or an
earthquake.

On August 3, 1999, a massive
landslide occurred at Cherry
Hills, a residential area
situated in Barangay San Luis,
Antipolo City in Rizal
Province, which killed 59
people, created extensive
damage to around 400
houses, and displaced
hundreds of people.

It is the water stored beneath the
ground, occupying pore spaces in soils
and interstices (i.e., cracks, crevices, or
fissures) in the rocks.
AQUIFER are rocks that
contains ground water.

Ground subsidence is the sinking of the
ground surface.

A sinkhole is a depression or cavity on the
ground, generally circular, following the
collapse of earth’s surface layer.
Karst topographic areasare areas underlain by water-
soluble rocks such as carbonates and evaporates where
groundwater slowly eats away rocks.

Search and explain briefly the 4
types of Landslides and 4 types of
Sinkholes.
