Headache Tutorials

Instructions to students There are five clinical scenarios You are required to divide yourselves into 5 groups consisting of 15 students according to your roll number. Each group is supposed to prepare answers for all the clinical scenarios. You may use ppt slides, multimedia or write on the board On the day of tutorial , every group will be allotted the scenario randomly. You will be given 15 minutes to revise and present. Scenario -1 Ms. X , aged 30 working in a software company, presents to the OPD with history of headache from past 1 hour. Its on the right side of the head, associated with nausea and vomiting. She sees some flashes of light prior to the headache. She has had similar episodes in the past 2 years. 1. What are all the relevant points in history that you want to ask to establish the diagnosis 2. Mention the reasons for asking those points. 3. Define Aura and Explain the various ways in which it can present. 4. mention all the aggravating and relieving factors

Scenario 2 Ms. X , aged 30 working in a software company, presents to the OPD with history of headache from past 1 hour. Its on the right side of the head, associated with nausea and vomiting. Cover the Lifestyle modifications, Prophylactic medications, therapeutic medications and non pharmacological options. Under what circumstances will you order neuroimaging in this scenario.

Scenario 3 Mrs. Y , aged 50 years presents with holocranial headache since past 5 years. Its more in the bi-temporal area and increases towards the evening. Her husband has alcohol dependent syndrome and she is subject to a lot of worry. 1. Mention is your diagnosis, describe the symptom and signs of this type of headache. 2. Mention the aggravating and relieving factors of this headache. 3. Mention the treatment options. ( cover the pharmacological and non pharmacological options)

Scenario 4 Mr. R aged 40 with no past comorbidities, has presented with headache to the emergency, its associated with vomiting and blurring of vision. Its been there from past 1 month, he at time wakes up with severe headache. 1.Mention the differential diagnosis you would like to consider. 2. Describe the red herrings in headache. 3. Describe the plan of evaluation of this patient.( flow chart may be drawn)

Scenario 5 Mr. R aged 60 presents with history of sudden shooting kind of pain in the right side of the face lasting for few seconds . The intensity of pain has increased recently. It aggravates even on shaving his beard. 1. Mention your diagnosis and substantiate. 2. describe the various manifestations of this type of headache. 3. describe the treatment options for this type of headache.
