Engaging in ritualistic eating patterns such as cutting food into tiny pieces, eating alone, and /or hiding food. Depression or lethargic stage Avoidance of social functions, family, and friends, thus becoming isolated.

TYPES OF EATING DISORDER Anorexia Nervosa 5The person fiercely limit the quantity of food he/she consumes and views himself/herself as overweight, even when he/she is clearly underweight. It can have damaging health effects such as brain damage, multiorgan failure, bone loss, heart difficulties and infertility.

ANOREXIA NERVOSA

Bulimia Nervosa is characterized by repeated binge eating followed by behaviors that compensate for the overeating such as forced vomiting, excessive exercise or extreme use of laxatives or diuretics. 6Men and women who suffer from bulimia may fear weight binge eating and purging can have injuring effects such as garto-intertinal problems, severe hydration, heart difficulties

EMOTIONAL EATING 8It is when a person uses food as a way to deal with feelings instead of satisfying his/her hunger. Many have experienced finishing a whole bag of chips out of boredom or downing cookie after cookie while cramming for a big test. But when done in excess, especially without realizing it- emotional eating can affect weight, health, and overall well being.

Prevention of eating Disorders You shoul have a genuine awareness that will help you avoid judgemental or mistaken attitudes about food, weight, body shape, and eating disorder Avoid attitudes or actions that communicate “ I will like you better if you lose weight; do not eat so much or change your body shape”. Do not think that a particular diet, weight or body size will automatically lead to happiness and fulfillment

9Talk about yourself with respect and appreciation and value yourself based on your goals, accomplishments, talents, and character. Become a critical viewer of the media and its message about self-esteem and body image.

MINDFUL EATING To be mindful is to use our minds to look inside, outside, and all around to consider our actions and how these affect ourselves others, and the world around us. 10Mindfulness is usually associated with medication and stress relief but it can also be a poweful tool when choosing what we eat, how we are eatingaaaaaa, and how our choices affect our health and that of our environment.

Just ask yourself: WHAT are you eating? WHY are you eating? WHEN are you eating? HOW do you eat? WHO is growing your food? WHERE does your food come from?
