CHAPTER I Lesson 1 PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2
Introduction Physical education came from Latin word “ physica ” meaning physics and “education”, meaning the training of the bodily organs and power with a view to the promotion of hearts and vigor.
-The philosophy of Physical Education emphasized using physical activities to reach valuable educational goals, the mental, social, spiritual, and moral goals. -It aims to help the student’s develop physical component skills and good habits.
-It refers to the individual growth and development of the total body movement, safety when it comes to physical activities.
-Physical education is sequential, developmentally appropriate educational programs that provide students with the knowledge, skills, fitness, and attitudes necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle.
SPORTS – is a subject related to physical education needs to require student to enroll in tertiary levels and that is included in CHED MEMORANDUM.
FITNESS EXERCISE – will provide physical activities like stability, strength, and mobility training. It includes goal setting exercise progression and periodic assessments for the development of various fitness components.
Leading a healthy and physically fit life is not only beneficial to the individual when we make time for physical activity in our lives we set good example to those around us. Two aspects of physical fitness are health-related fitness and performance-related fitness or motor skills.
SPORTS AND RECREATION AND LEISURE – is the proper classification for physical education both from logical perspective. It provides opportunities for socialization as well as for the development of the capacities of the individual.
LEGAL BASES OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION In accordance, with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994” in pursuance of an outcome based quality assurance system as advance CM046s 2012 and virtue of commission, the following policies, standard and guidelines are hereby accepted and promulgated by the commission for the purpose of nationalizing physical education in the country.
A. Legal bases, acquisition and importance of physical education as part of the curriculum. The importance of physical education as part of the curriculum is in the 1986 Philippine constitution, Article XIV, Sec 19 which states that “the state shall promote physical education and encourages sports program, league competitions and amateur sports, including training for international competitions to further self-discipline, teamwork, and excellent for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry”
B. The curriculum Philosophy of Physical Education Movement Enhancement All educational institutions shall undertake regular sports activities throughout the country in cooperation with athletic clubs and other sectors.
C. Constitutional Provision According to David (2010), Physical education is basis to the best development of child and youth. It should be a process of experience, progressing from the simple type, for small youngster to non-advance movement.
D. Learning Outcomes The curriculum develops them to grow physically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally as individual and members of a group.
Learning Approaches It should develop interest and attitude that will enable youth to feel that they have a place in this world, can give great contribution in building the society.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTHY SAFETY GUIDELINES These guidelines includes procedures that help prevent accident or injury in Physical Education classes and activities. Some such commonalities are as follows : -Exercise move carefully at all times. -Listen carefully and follow directions.
-Always participate and give the best effort in every activity -Consideration should be given first to the safety of the student. -Provide a pleasant atmosphere in which the students can work out.
Teachers need to be aware of the medical backgrounds and physical limitations of every student. Teachers must inform their students the locations of the fire chains, fire exits, and alternative routes from the beginning of the semester.
-Consideration must also be given to informing parents of activities that the students off the immediate school proper (e.g. fun, run camping). -Teachers are not only looking at activities that include contact, but also the issue surrounding body contact.
-Teachers must demonstrate that all proper precautions will be taken in the interest of student safety. -A fully stocked first-aid kit must be readily accessible to the gymnasium.
-Teachers must inform their students to use clean, comfortable clothes and shoes. -Exercise either in the morning or late afternoon when it is not so hot.
-Teachers have the recommended qualifications and experience for sport education. -Teachers recommended to supervising student first aid training.
-All records of inspections, using the facilities regularly inspected. -Equipment and facilities are safe measures minimize any potential risk to students. -Severe exercise must be avoided unless the individual is young and athletic.
-There are no best form of exercise. It depends on what the individual wants to achieve. -Medical information of the student is communicated through school medical clinic with the supervision of the teacher.
