COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course equips the Medical Laboratory
Science students with information
management and technology. It presents
the general situation of healthcare delivery
system in the Philippines and how this system
employs various types of health information
systems for all its operational needs.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
•Define educational institutions and health system in the
international, national, and local perspective.
•Explain the significance of core values and objectives to
educational institutions and the relationship between the
system building blocks and health outcomes and the goals
and fuctions of a health system
•Discuss the roles of health information system,
components of a health information system and the
different departments of the hospital, and the criteria for
selection.
•Explain ethics in health informatics and review the privacy,
confidentiality, and security measures in hospitals and the
role of health information management professionals and
of telemedicine in the Philippines.

FORMAL EDUCATION
-Is also called structured learning or synchronous learning.
-Examples of formal learning include classroom instruction,
web-based training, remote labs, e-learning courses,
workshops, seminars, webinars, etc.
INFORMAL EDUCATION
-Is a general term for education that can occur outside of a
structured curriculum in a regular classroom, but is not
limited to that setting. It works through conversation, and
the exploration and enlargement of experience.
