EDUCATION/ SCHOOL Institution created by the society - to assure survival stability and convenience. “ Schoool introduces and trains each child of society ith the spirit of service and effective sel -direction” (Dewey). “Have the deepest and best guaranty of a larger society which is worthy, harmonious and lovely” (Dewey)

EDUCATION IN PTIMITIVE TIME AIMS: LIFE SKILLS: 1. Security and survival (tool & instrument making) 3. Preservation and transmission of traditions (language) 2. . Conformity (adherence to moral code of the group).
EDUCATION IN PTIMITIVE TIME Function of education to society: Socialization -Process by which individuals internalize the norms and values of society and so social and cultural continuity are attained. This is informal education in action.
PRE-HISPANIC PERIOD/PRE-COLONIAL PERIOD No established formal schooling. No formal preparation for teachers too. Parents or tribal leaders - served as teachers at home (Babaylan or Katalonan). Livelihood/ Household chores/how to be good husband/wife
SPANISH PERIOD Formal and organized but authoritarian. Highly religion – centered (songs, doctrine, confession, communion). Teachers - Spanish missionaries. Free public school system – established (Educational Decree of 1863) (boys and girls - separate schools)
THE AMERICAN REGIME Americans promoted democratic ideals and democratic way of life. The schools maintained by the Spaniards for more than 3 centuries were reopened on August 29, 1989 by the secretary of the interior. Free and compulsory elementary education was established (Malolos Constitution).

Compulsory attendance of primary children enrolled in Grade 1. Adoption of double-single sessions in the primary grade with one teacher one class assignment of intermediate teachers .
POST COLONIAL PHILIPPINES Education aimed at the realization of democratic ideals and way of life. The Civil Service Eligibility of teachers was made permanent in pursuant to RA 1079 in June 5, 1954. A daily flag ceremony was made compulsory in all schools (RA 1265-June 11, 1955)
