15. How are centuries counted ? It seems complicated at first but the first century CE begins with the year 1 and terminates with the year 100CE. T he second century begins with the year 101 an terminates with the year 200 and continues in that fashion. This is why the century always seems one ahead what you might think it is. F or instance 1550 is in the 16th century and 1865 is in the 19th century.
