What is Chronology? Chronology is the arrangement of events or dates in the order of their occurrence

Historians used talk about years in terms of BCE or CE as a way of dividing time. Today we use BCE and CE. BCE stands for Before Christ and CE stands for Anno Domini (in the year of the Lord). BCE stands for Before the Common E ra. CE stands for the C ommon Era

Year 0 when Jesus was born Year 0 when Jesus was born - (BCE) +(CE) 500 years 2012 years 500 BCE 1 00 BCE 1 00 CE 2000 CE 500 CE 2016 ce NOW! BCE years move backwards in time starting from the year 0. CE years move forward in time from the year 0 until you reach today.

Activity 1 – Complete a timeline with the following dates: - (BCE) +(CE) Year 0 when Jesus was born 54 BCE 200 CE 140 BCE 1650 CE 1880 CE 390 BCE 1988 CE 2016 CE NOW 500BCE BCE years move backwards in time starting from the year 0. How are centuries counted ?

How are centuries counted ? It seems complicated at first but the first century CE begins with the year 1 and terminates with the year 100CE. T he second century begins with the year 101 an terminates with the year 200 and continues in that fashion. This is why the century always seems one ahead what you might think it is. F or instance 1550 is in the 16th century and 1865 is in the 19th century.

We are living in the 21 st century . This is because it is the 21st century after Jesus was born in year 0. This is because . . . T he years 0 to 99CE were the First Century. The years 100CE to 199CE were the S econd Century. This means that . . . The year 175CE is in the __________ Century The year 369CE is in the __________ Century

By putting things in chronological order we can discover interesting things about an event. Chronology is the study of when things happened. Events are put into the order of when they happened. This is called Chronological Order
