Ever since a young age I wanted to be in business for myself Used military service to gain key skills in leadership, training, budgeting, logistics, networking, and even sales (i.e. recruiting). Used GI Bill to earn a degree in Computer Science & Business Worked for the VA starting as a software engineer and eventually was promoted to work for Presidential appointees in Washington, D.C. Became a contractor to learn the ”other side” of the business Decided to strike out on my own in late 2013 and never looked back Struggled to find footing at first, but then specialized and took off My Journey to Entrepreneurship
Network and learn constantly Don’t hire too soon or too fast Trust but verify all things and stick to your values Improvise, adapt, overcome: “Semper Gumby” Don’t expect handouts: “A license to hunt doesn’t guarantee success” Learn to be uncomfortable: ”Embrace the suck” SPECIALIZE : “Be a laser, not a light bulb” GIVE FIRST : The “Open Kimono” sharing of knowledge and ideas NEVER QUIT : “Courage is fear holding on a minute longer” Some Lessons Learned
