About This Presentation

Is the least expensive and the most common variety. Typical carbon ranges are 2.5% to 4%. The microstructure has micro flakes of graphite dispersed in a matrix of ferrite. Flakes have NO strength so they act as voids in the structure. The pointed ends of the flakes act as notches and crack initiati...

TABLE OF CONTENT Mechanical loads, Wear, Electrical insulation, Thermal properties, ………… and Availability and cost. To deliver strong returns to our shareholders by selling high-quality products at affordable prices, backed by excellent customer service.

Nurturing a Vision Dangote Group continues to grow its focus of becoming the leading provider of essential needs in Food and Shelter in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Dangote Cement Mission, Vision & Values   To deliver strong returns to our shareholders by selling high-quality products at affordable prices, backed by excellent customer service. To help Nigeria and other African countries towards self-reliance and self-sufficiency in the production of the world's most basic commodity, by establishing efficient production facilities in strategic locations close to key growth markets.

Dangote Cement Vision Statement To be a global leader in cement production, respected for the quality of our products and services and for the way we conduct our business

Proper choice (selecting) of substitute (alternative) materials when needed Solid materials have been conveniently grouped into three basic classifications: metals, ceramics, and polymers. This scheme is based primarily on chemical makeup and atomic structure, and most materials fall into one distinct grouping or another, although there are some intermediates. In addition, there are three other groups of important engineering materials—composites, semiconductors, and biomaterials. Composites consist of combinations of two or more different materials, whereas

Metals : these are materials whose valence electrons are delocalized extremely good conductors of electricity and heat not transparent to visible light; a polished metal surface has a lustrous appearance

Mission: Talent Pipeline for Dangote Group and Filling the Industrial Skill Gap: The academy's primary goal is to ensure a steady stream of skilled and qualified individuals to meet the needs of the Dangote Group's operations. Recognizing the mismatch between the skills demanded by industries and those offered by academic institutions, the academy aims to bridge this gap by providing relevant t raining and development programs

Ferrous Alloys Methods of production; iron-carbon phase diagram; types, properties, uses and heat treatment of plain carbon steels; Case hardening; stainless steel. Alloy steels; types, properties and uses.

Semiconductors : these are electric current carrying materials. They are weak for Biomaterials are employed in components implanted into the human body for replacement of diseased or damaged body parts. These materials must not produce toxic substances and must be compatible with body tissues (i.e., must not cause adverse biological reactions). All of the above materials—metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and semiconductors— may be used as biomaterials

Heat treatment of plain carbon steels

Limitations of plain carbon steels poor resistance to corrosion and oxidation or scaling at high temperatures. They suffer rapid softening at elevated temperatures (i.e., above 300 C)thus limiting their use in high speed metal cutting operations and other high temperature operations. They have low hardenability i.e., large sections cannot be effectively hardened hence their use is restricted only to thin sections that can be full-hardened effectively. Decrease in ductility as the carbon content decreases. Maximum tensile strength obtainable in plain carbon steels and steels having reasonable toughness and ductility is about 700 MPa.

Martensitic Stainless Steels : Properties Are magnetic under all conditions Has BCC crystal structure Have good resistance to corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures
