A systolic blood pressure of less than 90
millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or
diastolic of less than 60 mm Hg is
generally considered to be hypotension
Severely low blood pressure can deprive
the brain and other vital organs of oxygen
and nutrients, leading to a life-threatening
condition called shock

Risk factor
•Age - in adults older than 65.
•Medications such as alpha blockers, Beta blocker, Tricyclic anti -
deressants
•Certain diseases - Parkinson's disease, diabetes and some heart
conditions

- Causes

Medical management
•Volume resuscitation - crystalloid or blood products
•Vasopressor - ↑ Blood pressure
•Dobutamine - ↑ CO
•Address the underlying problem

Medication
Erythropoietin, and Sympathomimetics such as Midodrine and
Noradrenaline
•Fludrocortisone is the first-line therapy for patients with chronic hypotension.
It works by increasing the intravascular volume.
•Midodrine - increasing peripheral vascular resistance.
•Noradrenaline - increasing vascular tone.
•Erythropoietin - increasing vascular volume and viscosity.
