CULTURE OF PUNJAB AND ODISHA SUBMITTED BY: BHAVIK AGGARWAL CLASS VII E

INTRODUCTION Culture is an umbrella term which encompasses the social behavior, institutions, and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of the individuals in these groups. The culture of Punjab is indeed overwhelming as Punjabis are known to be very helpful, welcoming and proud people. They welcome everyone with open hearts (and of course a glass of Lassi and typical Punjabi food). They celebrate their festivals with great zeal and zest, with great food, music, dances and revelry. As opposed to the hustle and bustle of metropolitan concrete jungles, Odisha comes as a sigh of relief to the one seeking the peace of mind. Life is uncomplicated, laid back and it doesn't take much to find some hush and quiet here

FOOD ITEMS OF PUNJAB One commonality among all punjabi dishes is the liberal utilization of ghee or butter, spices and sweets also. During summer people drink lassi, lemonade, doodh soda etc ,  Punjabi people are very fond of pakore , samose , jalebi etc. Sarson ka saag with makki di roti and Tandoori chicken is considered as worldwide cuisines

FOOD ITEMS OF ODISHA Odia cuisine uses less oil and spice but packs in a bountiful dash of flavour . A typical Odia meal consists of rice, dal/ dalma ( dal cooked with nutritious vegetables), a vegetable dish or two, something fried and a fish/meat curry. Traditional dishes like Pakhala (water-soaked rice), Chhena Poda (a roasted cheese dessert) and Mansa Tarkari (meat curry cooked with potatoes) are loved all over the state irrespective of innumerable dialects, uniting natives together.

DANCE FORMS OF PUNJAB   There are many folk music and dances which are hugely popular in Punjab and the rest of the country.  One of them is Bhangra which has also become immensely popular in the west. This dance form began many years ago when Punjabi farmers used to perform to welcome the harvest season. Giddha and Sammi, Luddhi and Dhamal are some other popular dances in the region.

DANCE FORMS OF ODISHA ODISSI is the most popular dance form of odisha . It resembles to temple culture. It traditionally depicts the divine love between Lord Krishna and his consort Radha, drawing inspirations from the lyrical compositions of poet Jayadeva. Other important dance forms include Chhau , Gotipua , Pala and Dalkhai .

FESTIVALS OF PUNJAB The Punjabis are a diverse group of people from different religious background that affects the festivals they observe. The Punjabi Muslims typically observe the Islamic festivals, like Eid- ul -Fitr, Eid- ul -Azha etc. Main festivals enjoyed in Punjab are Basant, Teej , Baisakhi, Lohri etc.  Urcs are held at shrines of saints, sufis , gurus, gurudwaras etc.

FESTIVALS OF ODISHA Most festivals in the state bring out some part of these cultures and celebrate their religion by way of festivals which span out the entire year. Chandan Yatra, Snana Yatra and Ratha Yatra are observed with special gaiety and fervour at Puri although the last-mentioned one is celebrated at Baripada , Athagarh , Dhenkanal, Koraput and other places even outside the state Durga Puja is observed throughout the state, more particularly at Cuttack. Kali Puja or Diwali is celebrated in different parts of Odisha.

TRADITIONS OF PUNJAB Punjabis love to dance and enjoy themselves to mark festivity. Folk music is the soul of Punjabi culture. Folk music comprises of simple musical instruments like dholak and dhol drum.  The traditional dress of people is Kurta- pyjama with turban for men. Women prefer Patiala suits as part of their traditional attire.  The traditional dress of the Punjabis comprising of the salwar-kameez for women and lehenga-kurta with a waistcoast has many colors and styling.
