ICT TOOLS USED IN EDUCATION   BY S. VEN VANITHA JENISHREE Ist B.Ed DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE

ICT TOOL USED IN EDUCATION ICT stands for Information Communication Technology. , wireless networks, cell phones, computers, software, middleware, video-conferencing, social networking, and other media applications and services.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education is the mode of education that use information and communications technology to support, enhance, and optimise the delivery of information. Worldwide research has shown that ICT can lead to an improved student learning and better teaching  method s.

ICT tools stand for Information Communication Technology tools. The ICT tools means to digital infrastructures like computers, laptops, printers, scanners, software programs, data projectors, and interactive teaching box.

Ict tools Computer. Digital cameras Interactive Whiteboard. Visualiser . Multi Media equipments (audio/video) Tablet device. Laptop Internet ipad iPhone Mobile phone Skype Video conferencing

COMPUTER: A computer is a machine that can store and process information. Computer is an electronic device which is used for fast calculation . COMPUTER stands for Common Operating Machine Purposely Used for Technological and Educational research .  A  computer consists of a central processing unit and some form of memory.

Types S.No . Type Specifications 1 PC (Personal Computer) It is a single user computer system having moderately powerful microprocessor 2 Workstation It is also a single user computer system, similar to personal computer however has a more powerful microprocessor. 3 Mini Computer It is a multi-user computer system, capable of supporting hundreds of users simultaneously. 4 Main Frame It is a multi-user computer system, capable of supporting hundreds of users simultaneously. Software technology is different from minicomputer. 5 Super computer It is an extremely fast computer, which can execute hundreds of millions of instructions per second.

TYPES OF COMPUTER: PC (Personal Computer ):   A PC can be defined as a small, relatively inexpensive computer designed for an individual user.

WORKSTATION : Workstation is a computer used for engineering applications (CAD/CAM), desktop publishing, software development, and other such types of applications which require a moderate amount of computing power and relatively high quality graphics capabilities.

MINICOMPUTER :   It is a midsize multi-processing system capable of supporting up to 250 users simultaneously

MAINFRAME :   Mainframe is very large in size and is an expensive computer capable of supporting hundreds or even thousands of users simultaneously. Mainframe executes many programs concurrently and supports many simultaneous execution of programs.

SUPERCOMPUTER: Supercomputers are one of the fastest computers currently available. Supercomputers are very expensive and are employed for specialized applications that require immense amount of mathematical calculations (number crunching).

DIGITAL CAMERA A digital camera is a camera that captures photographs in digital memory. However, unlike film cameras, digital cameras can display images on a screen immediately after being recorded, and store and delete images from memory. Many digital cameras can also record moving videos with sound.

TYPES OF DIGITAL CAMERA: 1. Compact digital cameras : Compact cameras are the most widely used and the simplest cameras to be ever seen. They are used for ordinary purposes and are thus called “point and shoot cameras

2. Bridge cameras: Bridge cameras are most often mistaken for single-lens reflex cameras (SLR).

3. Digital single lens reflex cameras (DSLR ): This is one of the most high end cameras obtainable for a decent price. They use the single-lens reflex method just like an ordinary camera with a digital image sensor.

4. Electronic viewfinder (EVF ): This is just a combination of very large sensors and also interchangeable lenses. The preview is made using an EVF. There is no complication in mechanism like a DSLR.

5. Digital rangefinders : This is a special film camera equipped with a rangefinder. With this type of a camera distant photography is possible. Though other cameras can be used to take distant photos, they do not use the rangefinder technique

6. Line-scan cameras :   This type of cameras is used for capturing high image resolutions at a very high speed. To make this mechanism possible, a single pixel of image sensors are used instead of a matrix system.

INTERACTIVE WHITE BOARD : An interactive smart board, also known as an electronic whiteboard, is a classroom tool that allows images from a computer screen to be displayed onto a classroom board using a digital projector . The teacher or a student can “interact” with the images directly on the screen using a tool or even a finger .

A white board is merely a board that can be used for writing, but an interactive white board is used to interact with the computer. The term Interactive Whiteboard just means a large interactive display that connects to a computer and projector.

TYPES: Interactive whiteboards are usually available in two different forms namely front projection interactive whiteboards and rear projection interactive whiteboards, as explained below: Front projection interactive whiteboards use a video projector in front of the board.

VISUALISER: A   visualiser  is simply a digital camera fixed on the end of an arm (Rigid or Flexible); using the controls on the base unit and/or software you can zoom in and out, freeze and capture an image of whatever is positioned under the camera

Visualisers  are becoming increasingly common in classrooms. These tools are like a webcam which is permanently connected to your whiteboard / projector and lets you show things to the whole class using the large screen display in your room

MULTI MEDIA EQUIPMENTS : Multimedia Equipment is a group or “family” of product, which include devices categorized as Information Technology Equipment or Sound and Television Broadcast Receivers and Associated Equipment

TABLET DEVICE: Tablet computers resemble smart phones in some ways and can also be used to take photos, make phone calls, send messages, record videos and perform other tasks that can be performed by a smart phone as well.

LAPTOP: A  laptop computer is a small personal computer. They are designed to be more portable than traditional desktop computers, with many of the same abilities .  Laptops are able to be folded flat for transportation and have a built-in keyboard and touchpad.

The full form of Laptop is Lightweight Analytical Platform Total Optimized Power

TYPES OF LAPTOP: 1. Hybrid laptop :   These hybrid laptops are a cross between laptops and tablets; these gadgets feature a flip-screen design which can be used a tablet when you are travelling and a laptop while you are home and working on a presentation.

2. Traditional laptop: These are the common form of laptop. Usually have a screen size of more than 11 inches.

3. Detachable laptop : Detachable  screen (or detachable  touchscreen ) is a phrase commonly associated with laptop–tablet hybrid  devices, also  called a convertible laptop. The devices may be sold as a tablet or advertised as a laptop with detachable screen or convertible laptop.

INTERNET: The Internet (or internet) is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to communicate between networks and devices. INTERNET  stands for Interconnected Network that is a network system that connects millions of web servers.

The full meaning of the INTERNET can also be explained by the bunch of websites of different organizations, schools, institutions and more. With the help of the INTERNET, the world is connected.

IPad : iPad  is a line of  tablet computers  designed, developed and marketed by  Apple Inc. , which run the  iOS  and  iPadOS  mobile operating systems. The  first iPad  was released on April 3, 2010.

iPhone :   The   iPhone  is a line of  smartphones  designed and marketed by  Apple Inc.  that use Apple's  iOS   mobile operating system . The  first-generation iPhone  was announced by former Apple  CEO   Steve Jobs  on January 9, 2007. Since then Apple has annually released new iPhone models and iOS updates.

MOBILE PHONES :   A  mobile phone (also known as a hand phone, cell phone, or cellular telephone) is a small portable radio telephone. The  mobile phone can be used to communicate over long distances without wires. Now, more people are using smartphones than the old kind of mobile phone, which are called feature phones.

SKYPE :   Skype  is a computer program that you can use to make voice calls or video calls on the internet. [trademark] Catch up with your American cousins or chat to your friend on her travels around India, on Skype

VIDEO CONFERENCING:   Video conferencing is a type of online meeting where two or more people engage in a live audio-visual call. With a strong internet connection, the participants can see, hear, and talk to each other in real time, no matter where in the world they are.
