Immunologicalmemoryistheabilityoftheimmunesystemto
quicklyandspecificallyrecognizeanantigenthatthebodyhas
previouslyencounteredandinitiateacorrespondingimmune
response.
Generallythesearesecondary,tertiaryandothersubsequent
immuneresponsestothesameantigen.
Immunologicalmemoryisresponsiblefortheadaptiveimmune
system,specialTandBcells—theso-calledmemoryTandBcells.
Immunologicalmemoryisthebasisofvaccination.

Immunologicalmemoryoccursafteraprimaryimmuneresponse
againsttheantigen.

previousinitialexposure,toapotentiallydangerousagent.

peptide:MHCIIcomplextonearbyeffectorTcells.
Thatleadstoactivationofthesecellsandrapidproliferationofcells.
Aftertheprimaryimmuneresponsehasdisappearedtheeffector
cellsoftheimmuneresponseareeliminated.
Development of immunological memory

Inadditiontotheformedantibodiesinthebodythereremainsa
smallnumberofmemoryTandBcellsthatmakeupthecellular
componentoftheimmunologicalmemory.
Theystayinthebodyinarestingstateandatthesecondornext
encounterwiththesameantigenthesecellsareabletorespond
immediatelyandeliminatetheantigen.Memorycellshavealong
lifeandlastuptoseveraldecadesinthebody.
However,thereremainantibodiespreviouslycreatedinthebody
thatrepresentthehumoralcomponentofimmunologicalmemory
andcompriseanimportantdefensivemechanisminsubsequent
infections.
