Curriculum Implementation Defined This is the phase where teacher action takes place. It is one of the most crucial process in curriculum development. (Tyler, Taba , Saylor, Alexander) It is a process wherein the learners acquired the planned or intended knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are aimed at enabling the same learners to function effectively in society.( SADC MoE Africa, 2000 ) 2
Curriculum implementation means an interaction between the curriculum that has been written and planned and the person (teacher) who are charge to deliver it . ( Ornstien and Hunskins , 1998) Curriculum implementation means trying out new of new practices and what it looks like when actually used in a school system. It simply means that implementation should bring the desired change and improvement. Loucks and Lieberman, 1983 ) 3
Kurt Levin’s Force Theory and Curriculum Change 4
Kurt Levin developed a force field model (1951) which describes any current level of performance or being as a state of equilibrium between the driving forces that encourage upward movement and the restraining forces that discourage it. Essentially this means that the current equilibrium exists because the forces acting for change are balanced by the forces acting againts change. 5
Categories of Curriculum Change Substitution- The current curriculum will be replaced or substituted by new one sometimes we call this a complete overhaul. Alternation- There is a minor change to the current existing curriculum Parturbations - These are changes that are disruptive, but teachers have to adjust to them within a fairy short time. 6
7 Restructuring- Building a new structure would mean a major changes or modification in the school system, degree program or educational system. Value Orientation- This type of curriculum change, perhaps this classification will response to shift in the emphasis that the teacher provides within the mission or vision of the school vice versa. 7
