What is IELTS? IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who want to study or work where English is the language of communication. IELTS is recognized by over 6,000 organizations worldwide, including universities, employers, professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies. IELTS has been developed by the British Council in partnership with IELTS Australia and Cambridge ESOL on the strength of forty years of research . Importance of IELTS Test! Everybody interested in overseas study or immigration and in some cases while applying for international jobs, may be required to undergo an IELTS test. The IELTS score is required to get admission into many renowned universities across the world and a majority of immigration destinations demand their applicants to take IELTS test in order to qualify for the eligibility criteria. Type of IELTS Academic & General Training . All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking modules but different Reading and Writing modules. IELTS is available in two test formats:
Academic Training The Academic format is, broadly speaking, For those who want to study or train in an English Speaking university or Institutions of Higher and Further Education. General Training The General Training format focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts. It is typically for those who are going to English-speaking countries to do work experience or training programs. People migrating to United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand must sit the General Training test. www.bhsconsultant.edu.pk
General Training Reading Test The test based on the typed of material you would be expected to encounter on a daily basis in a English-Speaking country. The come from newspaper, Notices, official documents, Booklets, Leaflets, Timetables, Advertisements, Instruction manuals and books and test your ability to understand and use information. The first section contains text relevant to basic linguistic survival in English with task that mainly require ability to retrieve and provide general factual information. The second section focuses on the training context –for example, the training programme itself or student’s welfare needs. They may contain visual materials such as diagrams, graphs or illustrations, and deal with issues that are appropriate and accessible to candidates entering undergraduate or postgraduate courses. Acceptance Of IELTS IELTS is accepted by educational institutes in Australia , New Zealand , Canada and the United Kingdom , and increasingly in USA and other countries, as evidence of language skills necessary for entry to university or college courses. IELTS One Day workshop Test Format To succeed in the IELTS exam, a candidate has to know the test pattern and the particular techniques for answering questions.
Listening Section of IELTS The Listening Module takes around 30 minutes , there are 40 questions . In Listening section , the candidates listen to a number of recorded texts, which increase in difficulty as the text progresses. These include a mixture of conversations and dialogues and feature a variety of English accents and dialects. The recording is heard only once, but candidates are given time to read the questions and record their answers. There are a total of four sections; the first two sections are concerned with social needs , while the last two sections are concerned with situations related more closely to educational or training contexts. www.bhsconsultant.edu.pk

Reading Section of IELTS The Academic Reading Module takes 60 minutes , there are 40 questions. There are three reading passages with tasks. Texts are taken from books, magazines, journals and newspapers, all written for a non-specialist audience. At least one of the texts contains a detailed logical argument. One text may contain non-verbal materials such as diagrams, graphs or illustrations. Text and tasks become increasingly difficult through the paper. www.bhsconsultant.edu.pk
Writing Section of IELTS The Academic Writing Module takes 60 minutes. There are two tasks to complete. For the first task; candidates write a report of around 150 words based on material found in a table or diagram, demonstrating their ability to describe and explain data. It is suggested that about 20 minutes be spent on task 1. For the second task; candidates write a short esay of around 250 words in response to an opinion or a problem. They are expected to demonstrate an ability to discuss issues, construct an argument and use the appropriate tone and register. It is suggested that about 40 minutes be spent on task 2. Candidates should note that scripts under the required minimum word limit are penalized. www.bhsconsultant.edu.pk
Speaking Section of IELTS The Speaking Module takes between 11 to 14 minutes. It consists of an oral interview between the candidates and an examiner. Candidates are asessed on their use of spoken English to answer short questions, speak at length on a familiar topic, and also to ask questions and interact with the examiner. www.bhsconsultant.edu.pk

IELTS One Day workshop IELTS Application British Council offers IELTS test at six different cities in Pakistan including: Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad & Hyderabad. Test centers of AEO are : Islamabad Karachi , Lahore Important Registration Details: Details of the exact location of the test venue as well as the timetable will be provided to you in a notification letter that will be sent to you 4-7 days before your test date. We do not accept applications by e-mail, fax or phone. • As seats allocation are on first come first served basis, we recommend that you register five weeks in advance to get your desired test date Acknowledgement We will forward an acknowledgement through email to candidates within 10 working days of the receipt of an IELTS application form.

IELTS One Day workshop IELTS fee for registration Kindly note that with effect from April 1st 2012 the new IELTS test fee will be Rs.15, 000 . The existing fee structure of Rs13, 900 remains effective for any IELTS applications between now and March 31 st 2012. Therefore, you may find it beneficial to register for an earlier test date i.e. from now to March 31st 2012.
IELTS One Day workshop Post Test information Test Results Test results are dispatched on the 13th day after the written examinations and also available online. As British Council always steps ahead to provide excellent customer services, so in line with our standards we have made arrangements to make our IELTS Test Report Forms (TRF’s) delivery smoother, by delivering the TRF personally to the candidate on the address entered on their IELTS application form. No enquiries regarding the declaration of the result are entertained over the phone or by email. Candidates are entitled to receive only one original IELTS TRF, duplicate TRFs can not be issued later to candidates.
