GURUKUL SYSTEM Gurukul system is an ancient Indian concept of education, where the participants get knowledge, by residing with his teacher as part of his family. Guru refer to the teacher or the master.

Gurukul Guru – removes darkness of ignorance by imparting knowledge kula – family and clan Gurukul – ancient Indian concept of education where pupil learnt by residing with the teacher Mala child at the age of 8 yrs would leave for gurukul (for 12yrs) Life here was tough-disciplined, hard work, focus.
Advantages of gurukul system All round development Practical knowledge Simple living &high thinking Close to nature Skills like singing, archery etc were also imparted They were taught values, manners-which helped them in future life
Disadvantage Staying away from parents at a tender age for such a long period Discrimination at the entry level. Eg - Eklavya Females were not admitted Guru’s words were final. No scope of argumentation Lived a sheltered life-unaware of the complexities of the world
Capability of teachers in gurukul system By virtue of taking birth as a brahmin, a person could teach. Admit pupils as per his own wish and choices Certify them as and when he though it was apt Teacher was not bound by any laws, rules/ regulation-no external control
Modern system Selection of teachers is based on qualifications & merit Teachers do not usually reside in the institution No personal power in certification ect . The board, institution or the university is in charge Is bound by external law, rules & codes
