The Origin of The Indonesian Language The origin of Indonesian language is Malay The Malay language consists of two types: high Malay and lower-class Malay . High Malay is the more formal form, used by royal circles around Sumatra, Java and the Malay Peninsula. This form of language is more difficult, its use is very subtle, full of innuendo, and less expressive. Lower-class Malay is flexible, easy to understand, and expressive. It has very large error tolerance and easily absorbs other terms from various languages used by its users The lower-class Malay is the origin of the Indonesian language
Malay in Indonesia is also known as the lingua franca (language of communication and trade), but at that time not many people used it as a mother tongue (first language). The Origin of The Indonesian Language By using Malay as a language of communication or the language of trade, people do not feel that their regional language is being competed with. The community realized that their regional language could not be used as communication between tribes or between traders from various countries.
The Birth of Indonesian Language Muhammad Yamin, a politician, writer and historian, proposed using Malay as the national language upon recommendation. He conveyed this proposal in a speech at the second National Congress in Jakarta
Malay language was then adopted by the youth at the Youth Congress on 28 October 1928 in Solo as an official Indonesian language. The naming of the Indonesian language is stated in the third point of the youth oath, namely "We, the sons and daughters of Indonesia, uphold the language of unity, Indonesian language". The Use of Indonesian Language Indonesian language began to be known and used by the Indonesian society during the Japanese colonial period. At that time, people were not allowed to use Dutch but the native language or Indonesian language.
The Status of Indonesian Language The proclamation of independence of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17 1945 has constitutionally elevated the position and function of Indonesian as the official language of the nation. Indonesian was declared its position as the national language on August 18, 1945 since at that time the 1945 Constitution was passed as the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. In the 1945 Constitution it is stated that "The state language is Indonesian language" (Chapter XV, Article 36).
The Spelling of Indonesian Language On March 19, 1947 that the Government of the Republic of Indonesia determined a new spelling for the Indonesian language, namely the Republic spelling . On August 17, 1972, the Indonesian and Malaysian governments established a joint spelling called the Improved Indonesian Spelling ( Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan ) or called the Indonesian-Malaysian Spelling.

Regional languages are used by ethnic groups in Indonesia, such as Javanese, Sundanese, Batak, and many more. Conclusion Based on the function and the position of the Indonesian language, the Indonesian people should be proud to use the language because it is the identity and the personality characteristic of the Indonesian nation. Using Indonesian language can bring together a sense of unity and integrity between different communities without abandoning tribal or personal identity.
