INFORMATION < EDUCATION & COMMUNICATION (IEC) Health Education is a powerful tool for prevention of diseases and promotion of Health. If person receive accurate information about prevention , person is expected to take action. Health education is always emphasized amongst health worker to contact people. Ultimate objective is health change in the behavior of the people.
Giving Information is not sufficient to bring about thechange in people. Information should be converted into simple ideas by taking into consideration of education level and socio- culture status. It should be “felt need “of the people Information should be given in a language which people under stand . Education = The process of making person to learn new concept or adopt new practice in life. Thus Information & Education together may bring about behavioral change. The process or making people lean is Communication.
SOCIAL MARKETING The concept of IEC is closely linked with social market. Use of marketing Techniques to promote health products amongst the people is called Social marketing. Like advertising the product. IEC in practice is a process closely linked with complex psycho-social cultural aspect of human behavior.

It helps in planning effective health education material. It helps in creating good rapport of health worker in the community. It enhances community participation in health programme .
