Informative Writing Also known as expository writing or essay. It deals with information or facts. Its goal is to inform or educate the audience or readers.
PARTS OF INFORMATIVE WRITING
INTRODUCTION This part of the essay or composition introduces the topic. It contains the thesis statement or the controlling idea of the paragraph or composition. It is used to get the attention of the readers thus, it should be written effectively.
BODY Contains a paragraph or a series of paragraphs that presents the important facts and information of the main idea stated in the introduction. All the sentences give supporting details about the topic which are called Relevant sentences
CONCLUSION This part summarizes the essay or composition. It encourages the reader to search for more facts and information about the topic.
Guidelines in Informative Writing
Inform the readers about the topic. Give your readers enough information so they will understand fully what you are writing about. Make sure that you are knowledgeable about the topic you have chosen. If not, do your research. State your introduction effectively by starting with proverb, a quotation, a startling statement, an interesting fact, an anecdote, an analogy, a rhetorical question, a historical background, or a definition. Write your conclusion as interesting as your introduction by using any of the methods employed in making effective introduction.
Steps in Writing an Informative Essay Choose a topic of interest to you and your reader. Make your research and gather pertinent information and details that you need in developing your topic. Identify the important and details you want to include in your work. Create an outline by organizing the information you have in a logical way.
5. Write your first draft. 6.Edit your draft focusing on the language use and expression. Re write it. 7. Proofread the final copy by checking for grammar, spelling, punctuation and etc.
