1. Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) Presented By – Abdul Fattah Barakzai

2. Introduction IPT is a sub set of public transport deals with low technology vehicles that occupy less space and are provided for short distance travel. IPT modes of transportation provide transport facility to low income groups.

3. Types of ipt modes in india Various types of IPT vehicles are found in many Indian cities. These are: Three-wheeler auto-rickshaw. Motor-cycle rickshaw. Cycle rickshaw. Tonga. Six- seater auto-rickshaw. Trekker. Matador Van.

4. Three-wheeler auto-rickshaw capacity is 2-seater beside the driver. speed is 25 km/ hr

5. Motor-cycle rickshaw These are motor-cycles of second world war. Capacity is 4-seater. Speed is about 15 km/ hr

6. Cycle rickshaw These are pedal cycle vehicles with three wheels and are found in many Indian cities. Capacity is two beside the driver. Speed is about 10 km/ hr

7. Tonga Horse-drawn vehicle seen in many cities in India. Capacity 2 to 4 persons beside the driver. Speed is about 10 km/hr.

8. Six- seater auto-rickshaw It has been recently introduced in India, there are two rows of seat with four openings. Capacity is 6-persons excluding driver.

9. Trekker Jeep-Type vehicle, with diesel powered engine and two rows of seats in front and two rows in the rear. Capacity is 9 excluding driver.

10. Matador Van Diesel operated engine with seating capacity of 8 excluding driver.

11. Matador Van A van with diesel operated engine and with seating capacity of 15 excluding driver.

12. ADVANTAGES OF IPD MODES Low fuel consumption as compare to passenger car . Greater maneuverability in congested streets . Point to point service capacity. Lower cost as compare to other modes. Provision of job opportunities to weaker sections of society.

13. DISADVANTAGES OF IPD MODES Some of them are not fully safe. Some of them are not unstable during turning around sharp concerns . Some of them are extremely noisy and pollute the air.
