INTRODUCTION
Pre operative cholangiography ( or )
Intravenous cholangiography (IVC)
Intravenous cholangiography uses contrast
material injected into the blood stream that
then is rapidly taken up by the liver and
subsequently excreted into the biliary tree,
providing a cholangiogram.

ANATOMY
The gallbladder has a storage capacity of 30-50ml and, in life, lies anterior
to the first part of the duodenum.
It is typically divided into three parts:
Fundus
Body
Neck
The Biliary Tree

INDICATIONS
✪ Cholecystitis
✪ Cholelithiasis
✪ Bile duct obstruction
✪ Bile duct stenosis
✪ Oral cholangiography not succeed
CONTRAINDICATIONS
✵ Hepatocellular disease
✵ Renal failure
✵ Allergy to contrast media

EQUIPMENTS
CONTRAST MEDIA
❄ Iodinated contrast media - Iohexal
❄ Cholograffin - Iopamide meglutimine
❃ Fluoroscopy unit
❃ Spot film device
❃ X-ray cassette
❃ Water soluble contrast media
❃ IV set
❃ Syringe
❃ Gauze

PATIENT PREPARATION
✯ Ask patient not to eat and drink after midnight
✯ Fat free diet suggested for 2 days
✯ Explain whole procedure and obtain consent from patient

PROCEDURE

⍟ After contrast media is injected through line by drip infusion or
very slow hand injection.
⍟ The radiograph are taken after 4 hours of contrast injection.
