Commas after Intro Phrases

Definition of Introductory Phrase An introductory phrase or a word is set apart from the rest of the sentence using a comma. Ex: After it rains, there are a lot of rainbows. Ex: In a rainbow, there are many colors.

Introductory Words There are also introductory words. There are certain words that can act as introductory phrases.

Examples 1.After I clean my room, I can go see the rainbow. 2.When it rains, there are a lot of rainbows. 3.Finally, it stopped raining.

Now for a quiz: In the following sentence where do you put the commas. When I went outside I saw a double rainbow. Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue. When I was outside I saw a twonicorn eating a rainbow.

Answers When I was outside, I saw a double rainbow. Some where over the rainbow skies are blue! (That was a trick question) When I was outside, when I saw a twonicorn eating the rainbow.
