INTRODUCTION TO NCC
HISTORY OF NCC
The origin of NCC can be traced back to the UNIVERSITY CORPS which was created under the INDIAN DEFENCE ACT 1917, with the object to make up the shortage of the Army. Formed with the NATIONAL CADET CORPS ACT of 1948 by the Governor General. RAISED ON 15 JULY 1948 . NCC AIR WING in 1950 NCC NAVAL WING in 1952.
During the 1965 & 1971 wars with Pakistan , NCC cadets were the second line of defense. The corps started in a small way with 32,500 S enior Division &1,35,000 Junior Division Cadets. Authorized cadet strength has now reached 14.2 lakh. In 1963 NCC training was made compulsory due to CHINESE AGGRESSION in 1962 but In FEB 1968 , the inter university board decided to make the NCC voluntary for all students .
MOTTO OF NCC UNITY & DISCIPLINE ( EKTA AUR ANUSHASAN ) UNITY AND DISCIPLINE was selected on 12 OCT. 1980 at the 12 th central advisory meeting and declared as motto for the NCC.
1. OBEY WITH SMILE. 2. BE PUNCTUAL. 3. WORK HARD & WITHOUT FUSS. 4. MAKE NO EXCUSES & TELL NO LIES. PRINCIPALS OF DISCIPLINE
AIMS OF NCC The aims of NCC as approved by MOD in March 2001 are mainly three fold:- (A) To develop following qualities in the cadets :- > Development of Character. > Comradeship. > Discipline . > Secular Outlook. > Spirit of Adventure. > Sportsmanship . > Ideals of selfless service among the youth of the Country. (B) To create a human resource of Organized , Trained and Motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and always be available for the service of the nation. (C) To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the Armed Forces.
PLEDGE “ I do hereby solemnly promise that I will serve my motherland most truly and loyally and that, I will abide by the rules and regulations of the NCC . Further under the command and control of my commanding officer I will participate in every camp most sincerely and wholeheartedly. OATH We, the cadets of the NCC , do solemnly pledge that we shall always uphold the unity of I ndia. We resolve to be disciplined and responsible citizen of our nation. We shall undertake positive community service in the spirit of selflessness and concern for our fellow beings.
