3D shapes Welcome To The Fascinating World Of 3D Shapes

Names of 3D shapes Cube cylinder Sphere Cone Rectangular Prism Square based pyramid Cuboid Triangular based pyramid Triangular prism

Our Topic Of Discussion Cube. Cylinder. Sphere. Prism. Pyramid.

3D Shapes 3D shapes can be solid or hollow. 3D Shapes has 3 dimension: Length. Width. Height.

Now Some Technical Terms To Address 3D Shapes Surface. Face. Base. Edge. Corner Vertex (singular)/Vertices (plural)

Surface The curved part of a 3D shape . Eg : Cylinder & Cone Surface

Face Part of a 3D shape that is flat .

Base The bottom face of a 3D object. Base

Edge The line where two faces meet on a 3D object. 6 Edges 5 Edges

Corner The point where three or more edges touch. This cube has 12 corners all together.

Vertex (Vertices) The point where three or more edges meet. This cube has 12 vertices all together.

Cube A three-dimensional shape which has: 6 F aces (All are of the same size) 12 E dges 8 C orners/ V ertex edge vertex face

Cylinder A three-dimensional shape which has: 2 F aces 1 S urface E dges C orners / V ertex face face Surface

Sphere A three-dimensional shape which has : F aces 1 S urface E dges C orner / V ertex Surface

There are different types of prisms and they are based on the shape of its bases : R ectangular Prisms S quare Prisms T riangular Prisms H exagonal Prisms Prism

Pyramids There are different types of pyramid and they are based on the shape of its bases: Have 1 base. Have Triangular side faces that meet at one Vertex. Examples: Square Pyramid, Triangular Pyramid, Rectangular pyramid etc. base Triangular face

Square Pyramid A three-dimensional shape which has: 5 F aces (1 square and 4 triangles) 8 E dges 5 C orner / V ertex

Rectangular Pyramid A three-dimensional shape which has: 5 F aces (1 Rectangular + 4 Triangles) 8 E dges 5 C orner / V ertex Rectangular face Triangular face

Prism Vs Pyramid PRISM -At least 3 Faces that are Rectangles . - Two congruent faces on top and bottom called bases . -The shape of the base determines what type of prism the figure is. PYRAMID -At least 3 Faces that are Triangles . - One base . - The shape of the base determines what type of prism the figure is.

Quiz Time!! Let’s Play Naming the Shapes

What shape am I? I have no flat faces. I have no straight edges. I have just one curved face. I am a …………?

Well Done! I am a sphere!

What shape am I? I have 6 flat square faces I have 12 straight edges I have 8 corners. I am a …………?

Fantastic! I am a cube!

What shape am I? I have one curved face I have 2 flat circular faces. I am a …………?

I am a cylinder

How many edges does a square pyramid have? 4 5 7 8

8 Edges

How many faces of a cube are squares? 2 4 6 8
