INTRODUCTION: Education owes its origin to the two latin words: “ Educare ” and Educe” “ Educare ” means- to nourish, to bring up, to raise, “Educe” means – bring forth, to lead out, to draw out The word education is derived from the latin word educare which means to lead out. Growth from the within. The root meaning of education can be given as manifestation of the inherent potentials in child. Education is the process of helping the child to adjust with this changing world.

Definitions: Education is development of all those capabilities in the individual, which will help him to control his environment and fulfill his possibilities. Meaning of education: Education modifies the behaviour . It brings such changes in the behaviour of a child, which is for his good. In the past the education of a child meant the filling up of the child’s mind with stuffed knowledge.

Trends in modern education and teaching: Education for all and compulsory primary education and adult literacy. Meeting individual differences of pupils. Teaching by learning in pupils Activity project control teaching Socialization of the child through group dynamics Teaching learning by variety of techniques and aids. Teaching learning a cooperative affair. Students involvement in some aspects of school administration.

Use of electronic media in teaching like radio, TV, teaching machines, computers, language laboratory etc. Compulsory education for weaker students. Enrichment programmes for the gifted. Integrated and correlation of subjects. Constructive creative and social discipline Parental and community cooperation New demands on teachers. New modes of education correspondence.

Aims of education: An activity which has beginning , an end and an interviewing process between the two can be said an aim. Education is purposeful, useful and planned activity. it is undertaken by the educator and the educated to achieve the clear cut aims of life. Without aims neither an individual nor an institution can realize the potentialities of education. Education directs the child to accomplish the goals of life. It gives foresight to the education for effective planning.

Scope of education: Increased skill in providing for the individual differences among pupils. Improved attitudes and skills: involved in uncooperative action research, one of the frequently recurring emphasis in educational literature has been idea that curriculum improvement is primarily a consequences of improvement of people. Greater skill in utilizing community resources and in working with adults, one of the important tasks of modern education s the development of intelligent civic loyalties and understandings.

Purpose of education: Education of the educator continues all throughout his professional career in a planned manner. Education extension will contribute to the qualitative improvement of education. The ill service training provided to the nurse is not adequate for the rest of his professional career for discharging his duties effectively. It is bringing the required changes in education. It is necessary to improve the competence of the nurse in terms of knowledge, skills, interest an aptitude. It is essential means for improving education
