Józef Ratblat was a physicist and co-creator of the first atomic bomb. He was the founder and leader of the pacifist movement of Pugwash scientists.
Józef Rotblat and the Pugwash movement he created (an international movement of scientists for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction) were awarded in 1995 with the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Prize Committee justified that the winners were appreciated for their efforts to limit the role of nuclear weapons in international politics and efforts to eliminate such weapons in the long term.He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995.
