NCF (NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK) 2005 The 10 common core elements and 84 core values stressed in NPE (National Policy of Education) 1986 have been kept in view while revising the curricula and text books. It has also recommended for softening of subject boundaries to enable children get a taste of integrated knowledge and the joy of understanding. After 1986, the state has revised the school curriculum twice once in 1989 – 90 and again in 1999 – 2000 . The revised text books were introduced subsequently in phases. The text book revision in the second phase was done between 2000-01 and 2004-05. These text books were revised based on the philosophy of making learning joyful for the child.
AIMS Connecting knowledge to life outside school Enriching curriculum so that it goes beyond textbook Making examinations more flexible and integrating them with classroom life Making education more relevant to the present and future needs Since it is a puc curriculum the main learning outcome is to preparing the students to easily face the university syllabus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During 2007-2008 the state has already adapted the grading system They are following three language formula under which kannada is compulsory for all students ,atleast as a second or third language Teaching of English as a second language starts from 1 st standard Teaching of third language begins from class 6 th (Hindi,Sanskrit,French) From puc level either kannada or english medium (Two language formula)

curriculum Part-1 Language 1.English The revised version of the syllabus is a well-developed proportional syllabus including both language structure and function , emphasizing all the four skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking ) of language with accuracy 2.OPTIONAL LANGUAGES sanskrit -Gadya Padya Vallari (name of the text book) The lessons are taken from ancient as well as modern literature includes great works like Ramayana, Mahabharata, and the works of Kalidasa, Subhashitas, Hitopadesha, Upanishads and Ayurveda. Kannada - saahitya nandana Hindi -sahitya darpan French
Learning outcomes: The workbook consists of more exercises in grammar, puzzles, riddles and jokes to make the learning a fun filled one.
Part II: OPTIONAL SUBJECTS 1.Social sciences PSYCHOLOGY Providing the students with adequate knowledge for understanding and appreciating themselves and others. Compassionate empathy towards the human struggles at person hood.
History History of India till 1707 with special reference to Karnataka Laying foundations for the various entrance examinations like UPSC, KPSC, NDA etc. Economics Enables the students to analyse the economic changes sweeping through the country and assess the business environment. Sociology With its scientific approach, it develops positive attitude towards the changing society. It develops a sense of unity among them by understanding the cultural diversity. Political science Make the individuals more intelligent, vigilant, co-operative, tolerant, and democratic-minded.
2.Commerce Economics The syllabus enables the students to analyse the economic changes sweeping through the country Commerce
Business studies The syllabus prepares the students become familiar with various forms of business ownership ACCOUNTANCY They draw statements and analyse the importance of cash and credit transactions. At the end of the course they also know how books of accounts are maintained by various concerns both trading and non-trading. Basic mathematics It develops reasoning, logical thinking, and mental aptitude amongst the students. This forms the foundation for the selection process of various professional courses. Statistics They learn the application of statistics in industry. The students learn to admire and appreciate the need and importance of statistics.
3.Science NCF 2005 lists six criteria of validity of science curriculum which in essence characterized a framework for developing a good science curriculum. a) Cognitive Validity b) Content Validity c) Process Validity d) Historical Validity e) Environmental Validity f) Ethical Validity. Electronics The two year PU Electronics is very beneficial especially to students pursuing engineering 3.Science
3.Science Physics It gives primary importance to acquiring knowledge, understanding and application abilities about different aspects of Physics. Chemistry The syllabus enables the students to appreciate the integrities of science at atomic and molecular levels Mathematics It provides solutions to confusing theorems, complicated formulae, critical problems etc., through this syllabus students learn to enjoy mathematics. Biology The Medical Council of India (MCI) recommends this new syllabus for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to MBBS courses across the country (NEETUG) The introduction of human physiology in the syllabus is in tune with the Medical council of India’s vision.
TEXT BOOK REVISION Guided principles for the textbook writers, Text books should be learner friendly Child centeredness Integrated Approach and totality of experiences in subjects Use of Activities for understanding of concepts The child constructs knowledge The textbook should have a place for spiral learning Gender equality should have situations wherein values are put into action Group work should find a place in the textbook. There should be place for imagination and fantasy The text book should have easy readability. The students should be able to understand the content on their own specially in situations where there are long absences of teachers.
