1900 Andrew Carnegie donates $40,000
to Covington for the establishment of a
public library in the city.

Early Years
1901 Covington Library opens in temporary
quarters at 7

and Madison
Property acquired on Scott Street at Robbins
Architectural Firm of Boll & Taylor selected to
design the first building

Covington Public Library – Opened
on March 16, 1904

Erlanger Library
Established in 1911 by the Erlanger Women’s
Club
Volunteers
1928 The Women’s Club requested that the
Erlanger Library become a part of the
Covington Public Library
Remained so until 1942

1967 a drive was held to establish a County-
wide System.
January 1968 – Kenton County Public Library
First Director: Miss Mary Ann Mongan (retired
1999)
Second Director: Wayne Onkst (1999-2006)
Third Director: Dave Schroeder (2007-
Present).
