KHUSHWANT SINGH

Life: He was born in Feb 1915,at Hadali . Studied at Modern School , Delhi. Received his higher education from Government college , Lahore. Eventually studied at st.stephen’s college in Delhi & King’s college in London. He is an Journalist ,Writer ,Historian , Critic.

. His elder brother name is Bhagwant . His birth name is given by his grandmother was Kushal Singh. His pet name is Shalee . Boys mock at him with an expression. He married to kawal Malik . They had a son and daughter.

Career: Started his professional career as Lawyer,1938. Entered Indian foreign services in 1947. Started as informational officer of the government of India in Toronto, Canada. Public officer for Indian High commission in London. In 1951,Joined A ll India Radio as Journalist. In 1954,worked in department of Mass communication in UNESCO.

. In 1956,He turned to editorial services. He founded and edited Yojana and 2 Newspapers. From 1980-86, member of R ajya Sabha . He was accused of favouring the ruling party. On 20 th March 2016,He died of natural causes.

Achievements: Rockefeller Grant(1966 ). Padma Bhushan,1974(returned in 1984 ). Honest man of the year , Sulabh international(2000 ). Punjab Rattan award , Govt of Punjab(2006 ). Padma vibhushan (2007 ). Sahitya akademi (2010 ). Lifetime achievement award by Tata literature(2013 ).

TRAIN TO PAKISTAN: It is one of the top rated novels of khushwanth singh . It was published on 1956. This novel is based on 1947, separation of India and Pakistan. It is a story about how a sikh boy falls for a muslim girl. At the end their love triumphs over the massive destruction of war.

THE COMPANY OF WOMEN: The theme of the book is the relationship between men and women. The Company of Women was started  when he was eighty-three and finished at age eighty-five . The story runs around a person called mohan kumar , from his college days to old age. This is a book of 294 pages.

Morality is a matter of money. Poor people can not afford to have morals, so they have religion. - khushwant singh .
