4. About Kitab Gari/Mahol Gari- a Complete Learning Solution Kitab Gari, a project initiated by Pakistan Learning Festival , a flagship program of Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA). The First Kitab Gari launched in August 2019 , since then reaching out to many underprivileged areas, schools and communities, attracting students and providing them with a platform to unlock their hidden potential! Three Kitab Garis has been launched by PLF. Recently Kitab Gari Multan in collaboration with Bank of the Punjab. Aiming to promote reading habits, enhancing creativity and fostering critical thinking by providing access to quality books to marginalized communities and children.

5. Components of Kitab Gari/Mahol Gari This mobile rickshaw library is stocked with 500+ books, both fiction and non-fiction for children up to 16 years and for teachers. It’s focus has been extended to 5 main learning strands: Storytelling /reading (voice/digital), Arts and Crafts, Documentaries/Movies, STEM/Climate Change Mitigation Activities and Board Games. *STEM/Climate Change Mitigation Activities has been added to it to make it a Mahol Gari

What is in the Kitab Gari/Mobile Rickshaw Library – Library on Wheels – a mini Festival on Wheels! -Books - Fiction and Non-fiction by grades (500 and growing) - reading and other activities - Tablets - digital learning for children - Cinema Ghar (movie house): Documentaries, Short Films, Animated Stories - Arts and Crafts related to writing – imagination - illustrations (Drawings, Painting, calligraphy, Origami and paper recycling) STEM Activities/Climate Change Mitigation Activities has been added as Mahol Gari-Mahol Saheliyan - Games - Board Games - Carrom Board, Ludo, Chess and Snakes and Ladders - Resource Person/Facilitator (Storyteller who reads aloud with Expression, and Artist) - Solar Panel for charging batteries and ensuring power supply on the site if not available

7. What’s in 1 hour and 30mins Kitab Gari Session ● Introduction/warm-up session with kids- 5 mins ● Storytelling for example Bahadur Reema, engaging kids through questioning for interactive session – 15 mins ● Activities related to Story- Bahadur Reema Activity pack followed by a discussion on the main theme of the book – 20 mins ● Art and Craft on the story such as origami session, engaging kids in groups/individually with the help of facilitator – 20 mins ● Board Games; facilitator teaches the kids how to play board games such as chess – 10 mins 

8. Kids are also encouraged for independent book reading available in Kitab Gari – 10 mins Cinema Ghar /Digital Resources including awareness videos SOC films, Raju and Meena series - 5 mins Encouraging Kids to do the storytelling – 5 mins Recently, we’ve introduced Learning Through Harmonies- Gaeen Aur Seekhain (A foundational learning campaign promoting SEL through Music), activities modules are designed on poems/songs after aligning them with SNC. 9. Purpose of the Activities Inculcate a love for books in children for creativity Develop book-reading habits and stimulate interest in self-expression and inquiry Give students an opportunity to explore learning through technology/digital-based learning and board games thus fostering critical thinking Spread Climate Change awareness to all age groups so that individual can play their role. For 4Cs: Creativity, Critical thinking, Collaboration, and Communication in children of all age groups

10. Protocols and Safeguarding Policies Code of Behavior- Facilitators will: act in a way that that will promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of learners be committed to preventing any form of discrimination against any child on grounds of race, disability, gender or religion listen to what the learners have to say and treat them with respect provide a safe environment encourage and praise the learners to improve engagement be aware of your own reactions and beliefs Importantly, child protection while conducting session is of vital importance.

11. Protocols and Safeguarding Policies Logistics Before a session make sure that the information has been provided by the school or the community Before a session make sure that the Kitab Gari is equipped with all the resources Make sure lesson plan has been made and is complete Make sure the checklist has been marked which is provided in the training manual.

12. Protocols and Safeguarding Policies Consent Consideration of consent is central to safeguarding the learners. Consent is a clear indication of willingness to participate in an activity or to accept a service. It may be signaled verbally, by gesture, or in writing. Since Kitab Gari caters to minors, make sure: Assent is taken from the Principal or a community head on behalf of the learners before carrying out a session Permission is taken from the Principal or a community head before taking pictures or videos of the learners Assent is taken from the Principal or a community head before taking feedback from the learners through focus groups

13. Scheduling Visits and Reporting Targeting 4 schools in a week, 2 hours per school and their surrounding community There should be scheduled visit to one park in a week: MUST 6 days in a week for Kitab Gari visits How to engage schools? Reach out to schools and get a detailed schedule to plan school visits and also respond to visit requests from partner schools and organizations. Weekly activity plan: Facilitator must plan a weekly plan for activities. vA set of books/stories will be selected for every week and activities will be designed accordingly. Setting monthly targets: Gauge the impact generated by Kitab Gari in Lahore and Karachi by seeing how communities and children react by carrying out a survey or small interviews who participate in Kitab Gari activities in the first 2 months to set defined targets for Kitab Gari’s outreach. Reporting: A short monitoring and evaluation report to be handed in after each of the sessions that would clearly highlight the outcomes achieved, challenges faced during the session, shortcomings and the areas of improvement.

14. 15. Book a Kitab Gari This segment is for Private Schools emerged from the idea for sustaining Kitab Gari visits to most deserving communities, and low income schools and parks.
