Presentation on Principles Of Land Rehabilitation BY GROUP TWO

Outline Introduction to rehabilitation Objectives of rehabilitation Principles of rehabilitation Conclusion

Introduction Land rehabilitation Action that seek quickly to repair damaged ecosystem functions, particularly productivity . Indigenous species and ecosystem structure and function are the targets for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation seeks to return to a more functionality system rapidly than the natural processes.

Objectives There should be a need to establish general planning and development objectives that would meet or exceed international environmental guidelines and best management practices for rehabilitation; Adhere to all statutory requirements (of the EPA). Provide long-term stable site configuration to attain beneficial post-project land use.

Eliminate public safety hazards. Perform rehabilitation activities concurrent with project and allocate sufficient funds to implement these objectives . Rehabilitate project related disturbances to obtain post-project land use compatible with prevailing conditions in the area.

Principles O f Rehabilitation The basic principles of rehabilitation; Rehabilitation planning must be included in the project planning. Undertake progressive rehabilitation as the active project is on-going. Minimize the time disturbed areas are left without rehabilitation. That is, rehabilitation should commence as early as possible.

Rehabilitate areas based on the priorities of the areas and the impact damage of the areas. That is rehabilitate areas of high priority and areas of greatest degradation first. Set quality and feasible targets for rehabilitation in the project plan.

Rehabilitation should meet the target set in the project plan and implement a monitoring program to measure performance. Incorporate use of local or native species in rehabilitation plan.

Conclusion Following these basic principles will help raise a self-sustaining and self-resilient ecosystem.
