Key Content Vocabulary Content Objective Identify the four river valley civilizations and explain the geographic advantages that allowed them to be successful. Language Objective Explain orally using a map for reference. Use the terms irrigation, agriculture, transportation, and shelter.

Lesson Task Content Objective Analyze the things that humans need to survive and where they can be acquired. Language Objective Complete a 3-collumn chart analyzing the things humans need, why, and where we can get them.

Language Function Content Objective Students will distinguish between liquids, solids, and gases and provide an example of each. Language Objective Students will orally describe liquids, solids, and gases to a partner.

Language Structure Content Objective Students will sequence events in a short story Language Objective Students will retell a short story in the past tense. Students will use the sequence words “first”, “next”, “then”, and “finally”

Language Function Content Objective Students will compare and contrast two regions of the United States Language Objective Students will write a compare/contrast paragraph using a venn diagram and paragraph frame for support.
