Literature Definition Literature is an imaginative work that pictures human life in a society that can be enjoyed, understood, and used by society. Literature is a means of social expression, a mirror of life, and an interpretation of human expressions that help us understand how to live.

Two Major Categories Fiction Fiction is any creative work, chiefly any narrative work, portraying individuals, events, or places that are imaginary, or in ways that are imaginary. Non-fiction Any publication or piece of media that strives, in good faith, to present information only about the real world, as opposed to being based on imagination, is considered non-fiction.

Plot Character Elements Of Literature A character is a person, animal, being, creature, or thing in a story. A literary character is a person, animal, or object/thing presented as a person in a narrative. Plot is the cause-and-effect sequence of main events in a story. The plot is the story and more specifically, how it develops, unfolds, and moves in time.

Elements Of Literature Setting Point of view is the writer's way of deciding who is telling the story to whom. Establishing a clear point of view is important because it dictates how your reader interprets characters, events, and other important details. There are three kinds of point of view: first person, second person, and third person. Point Of View Theme is defined as a main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work which is conveyed by an author and interpreted by a reader.
